Position Summary

The Advanced Practice Professional (APP) provides comprehensive management of orthopedic patients, coordinating multidisciplinary teams, performing diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, peri-operative services, discharge planning, and educating residents and staff.

Education, Certification, and/or Licensure – Nurse Practitioner
  • Graduate of a CCNE accredited nursing program with a Master’s Degree in Nursing.
  • National Certification by one of the recognized APRN Certification Centers.
  • Licensure, or eligibility for licensure, as a professional Registered Nurse and Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in West Virginia.
  • CNOR Certification.
  • BLS Certification required; additional Advanced Life Support training at discretion of the department.
  • APRNs wishing to act as First Assist in peri‑operative services must be approved RNFA certified; ACLS may be required.
Education, Certification, and/or Licensure – Physician Assistant
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree as Physician Assistant.
  • Graduate of an ARC‑PA approved PA training program.
  • Certification by the National Commission for Certification of Physician Assistants.
  • Licensed or eligible for licensure by the WV Board of Medicine.
  • BLS Certification required; additional Advanced Life Support training at discretion of the department.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) may be required.
  • Master’s level PA preferred; acute‑care, surgical or orthopedic experience preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Acute care, surgical or orthopedic experience.
Core Duties and Responsibilities
  • Manages comprehensive and individualized care for orthopedic patients.
  • Completes daily rounds; consults and/or pre‑procedure evaluations.
  • Participates in peri‑operative patient care, including first assisting in the operative suite.
  • Completes integrated assessments.
  • Orders additional tests or consults as deemed appropriate.
  • Performs and communicates results of diagnostic tests.
  • Facilitates patient discharge and coordinates appropriate services.
  • Develops individualized plans of care, including teaching, peri‑operative planning, discharge planning, and referrals.
  • Recognizes emergency situations and initiates effective emergency care.
  • Serves as a coordinator for follow‑up procedures and tests in the ambulatory setting.
  • Assists in collection of outcome measures.
  • Utilizes teaching/learning theory and appropriate strategies to educate staff, students, patients, families and community.
  • Promotes learning environments responsive to patient/family preferences.
  • Participates in community programs and distribution of literature.
  • Provides education to professional and paraprofessional personnel.
  • Collaborates with leaders and staff to achieve patient outcome improvements.
  • Leads development and implementation of changes in orthopedic practice.
  • Documents plan of care, interventions and evaluations clearly.
  • Provides leadership in committees and task forces.
  • Documents hours and submits billing reports as appropriate.
  • Reviews and interprets orthopedic data and recommends changes.
  • Participates in clinical trials and research studies.
  • Other duties and projects as assigned.
Physical Requirements
  • Heavy or hard work requiring strength and/or stamina: lifting, moving, stooping, reaching, positioning patients, standing, walking, carrying patients, materials and equipment weighing 40+ pounds.

Schedule and Compensation

Scheduled weekly hours: 40. Shift: United States of America (Exempt). Salary range: $93,500.00–$ (West Charleston, WV) to $–$ (South Charleston, WV). Position listing updated 1 month ago.
