Job Description

American Traveler is seeking a skilled RN for a Stepdown/PCU assignment with travel and critical care experience in an acute care setting.

Responsibilities
  • Work in an acute hospital environment on a PCU/Stepdown unit
  • Care for post-operative vascular, hemodynamically stable cardiac, CVA, sepsis, renal, stable acute MI, unstable angina, and post-cardiac cath patients
  • Unit has 11 beds with a 1:4 nurse-to-patient ratio
  • Uses Epic EMR system
  • Shift is 12 hours, , with rotating weekends and rotational holiday coverage required
  • Float required to ICU, Med-Surg Telemetry, and may provide care for PCU/ICU patients in the Emergency Department
  • RNs must titrate drips including insulin, Cardizem, heparin, amiodarone, and low-dose dopamine
  • RT equipment includes Cpap, Bipap, high flow O2, mechanical ventilation via tracheostomy, and specialty beds
  • Monitor Tech support 24/7; RNs are responsible for reading telemetry strips
  • Two 12-hour orientation shifts with a preceptor and full day of nursing orientation provided
  • Abbreviated initial skills checklist due within 90 days of start
  • Navy solid-color scrubs required for RN/LPNs, with guidelines for undershirts and outerwear; closed-toe shoes required
  • Unit supported by a charge nurse and 24/7 house supervisor
  • One PCT (CNA) supports the unit; nurses assist with general care and unit clerk duties as needed
  • No local travelers; candidates must live outside a 50-mile radius from facility
  • Returning travelers must have a 2-year break from any WVU Medicine location and may not work within the system for longer than one year cumulatively, after which a 2-year break is required
  • Pass/fail EKG testing may be required
  • Rotational holiday coverage is expected
Requirements
  • Active WV or compact RN license required
  • Minimum 1-2 years of recent critical care experience and prior travel experience required
  • Current BLS (AHA), ACLS (AHA), and NIHSS certifications required
  • Experience with ICU-level skill set, including Bipap, Cpap, mechanical ventilation, telemetry, critical drips, and post-cardiac cath care
  • Experience titrating drips
  • Epic EMR experience preferred
  • Ability to float to various units as needed
  • Arterial line, post fem-pop, post endarterectomy, ECAR, and TVAR experience preferred
