Location: Fort Thompson

Summary

Serves as a clinical pharmacist providing direct pharmaceutical care for patients within the Indian Health Service. This position is the major source of pharmaceutical clinical information and is expected to manage selected patients with chronic disease states, as well as provide care for acute patients.

Duties
  • Responsible for proper interpretation and dispensing of prescribed products including review of labeling for directions for use and precautions as necessary to assure proper protection of prescribed products to the patient.
  • Provide specialized services to assist patients with managing conditions such as diabetes, asthma, high blood pressure and other chronic illness.
  • Provide information and advice about drug therapy and usage, drug interactions, side effects, dosage, and proper medication storage.
  • Maintain records such as pharmacy files, patient records, inventories, and control records for narcotics or controlled drugs.
  • Compound and dispense medications as prescribed by physicians, dentists, and other licensed practitioners by calculating, weighing, measuring, and mixing ingredients.
  • May serve as a pharmacy consultant and advisor to such groups as the therapeutic agents committee, the hospital research committee, and the infection control committee.

Requirements

U.S. Citizenship required. Selectee may be subject to a probationary period. Selective Service Registration required for males born after 12/31/1959. Confidential Financial Disclosure Form required. Measles and Rubella, and seasonal influenza immunizations required. On-call hours or standby duty may be required. Successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check. Direct deposit required.

Background Investigation

Pre-employment fingerprint check and background investigation required prior to hire. Continued employment contingent upon outcome of a complete background investigation. Credit check as part of background investigation process may be required.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, resume must state sufficient experience and/or education to perform duties. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work through National Service programs (Peace Corps, Ameri Corps) and other organizations. Must identify duties in each position held and total hours per week.

Basic Requirements
  • Degree:
    Doctoral degree in Pharmacy recognized by ACPE or equivalent accrediting body.
  • Licensure:
    Passed NAPLEX and MPJE. Licensed to practice pharmacy in a State, D.C., Puerto Rico or U.S. territory.
  • Medical Requirement:
    Able to distinguish basic colors.
  • Experience:

    Demonstrate knowledge, skills, abilities, competencies necessary for pharmacy work. Experience may include dispensing, evaluating medication use patterns, performing consultative work, planning medication programs, establishing handling procedures, researching literature, maintaining records.
Basic Requirements for GS-11

Candidates must have 3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D., Pharm.

D. or equivalent doctoral degree.

Basic Requirements for GS-12

In addition to GS-11 requirements, resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-11 in the Federal service performed in private or public sector, including conducting outpatient pharmacy clinics, managing patient histories, evaluating regimens, monitoring outcomes.

Education

Transcript or list of courses with titles, credit hours and grades required. Unofficial transcripts accepted; official transcripts required prior to offer. Only accredited institutions recognized by U.S. Department of Education accepted. For foreign education, provide Certificate of Foreign Equivalency with transcript.
