SummaryThe Nursing Assistant (NA) serves as a caregiver to the resident during the scheduled work period in long‑term care. The NA provides resident‑centered nursing care and daily living assistance to assigned residents under the supervision of a registered nurse (RN). The role includes delivering age‑appropriate care that meets the physical and psychological needs of residents as per their care plans, following infection‑prevention and control policies, and wearing appropriate personal protective equipment.
Job Description- Assists with basic health‑care needs, including bathing, toileting, grooming, dressing/undressing, and recording vital signs.
- Provides psychosocial support and personal care, helps residents with meal preparation, dining, and snack services, and supplies water and supplements as needed.
- Assists residents in transferring, repositioning, and walking using correct transfer techniques and equipment, and performs range‑of‑motion and passive exercises.
- Documents resident interactions, outcomes related to resident care, behavior, activity, and dietary, and communicates changes in condition to the charge nurse.
- Collects non‑invasive body‑fluid specimens and gathers vital signs.
- Provides housekeeping and laundry services to maintain residents’ living areas.
- Documents participation in wellness and recreational programs and encourages resident engagement.
- Supports nursing staff with procedures when needed and may participate in departmental or organizational committees and task forces as requested.
- High school graduate or GED preferred, but not required.
- Minimum age of 16.
- Prior clinical or nursing assistant experience in long‑term care preferred.
- Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification required. Must be certified with the State Board of Nursing or state certified CNA within four months of start date, or be enrolled in a training program or endorsement program. CNA training and certification will be provided by the facility.
- Must satisfactorily complete yearly departmental competency testing and maintain a record of continuing education credits, with a minimum of 12 hours annually.
- Must maintain all department‑specific required certifications and, where applicable, be registered with the Unlicensed Assistive Person (UAP) Registry.
- May require classification as a Sanford Category II Driver, requiring a motor vehicle report, proof of a valid driver’s license, and medical qualification for driving functions per Sanford Driving Policy.
