Overview
Advanced Practice Nurse (Nurse Practitioner) at Indian Health Service (IHS). This role supports delivering compassionate care aligned with IHS mission to raise the health of American Indian and Alaska Native people.
Summary:
At the Indian Health Service (IHS), Nurse Practitioners do more than practice medicine—they change lives and deliver care where it's needed most. You may be eligible for recruitment/relocation sign-on bonus.
- Assessment & Diagnosis:
Conduct comprehensive patient assessments, including medical histories, physical exams, and diagnostic testing. - Diagnosis:
Identify and diagnose acute, chronic, and complex health conditions. - Treatment Planning:
Develop individualized care plans addressing patient needs, goals, and expected outcomes. - Prescribing:
Prescribe medications, therapies, and medical devices as appropriate.
- Basic Requirements:
Education from an accredited nursing program (graduate or higher level) and licensure as a professional nurse with current, full, active status in the U.S. or its jurisdictions. - Advanced Practice Nurse Requirements:
Licensure in the clinical specialty required by the position; graduation from an accredited program in the indicated specialty. - Specialized
Experience:
For GS-13 level, at least one year of professional advanced practice nursing experience equivalent to GS-12, with independent practice as a nurse practitioner and responsibilities such as history/diagnosis analysis, prescribing, chronic/acute care management, and collaboration on treatment protocols. - Education Verification:
Official transcripts may be required; foreign education requires a Certificate of Foreign Equivalency if used toward qualification. - Additional Considerations: E-Verify, background investigation, immunization policy compliance, and potential credentialing requirements may apply.
Includes potential for a total compensation package and possible recruitment/relocation incentives. On-call hours may be required. Federal employment policies, leave accrual, and potential loan repayment programs may apply where eligible.
