The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for utilizing the nursing process—assessment, diagnosis, outcomes/planning, implementation, and evaluation—to provide individualized nursing care to residents. The RN collaborates with residents, families, and interdisciplinary colleagues, including providers, to plan, implement, and evaluate care. The RN demonstrates competency and practices within the full scope of nursing expertise, using appropriate age- and population‑specific standards for the assigned clinical setting.
The RN provides care for residents in all phases of preventive care, health maintenance, diagnosis, and treatment. The RN coordinates care, conducts resident assessment, provides resident education, and performs various nursing interventions. The RN may serve as charge nurse and delegate appropriate tasks to licensed and unlicensed assistive personnel, ensuring safe and reliable administration of resident care and resolution of care and service concerns.
The RN functions within the scopes and standards of nursing practice as outlined by the Nurse Practice Act and Administrative Rules in the state of practice and licensure. The Professional Nursing Practice recognizes the Scope and Standards of Practice and the Code of Ethics for Nurses with Interpretive Statements as published by the American Nurses Association as the foundation of nursing care delivery and professional conduct.
Responsibilities
- Assess, plan, carry out, and evaluate nursing care for residents.
- Provide education to residents and families about health conditions and procedures.
- Coordinate interdisciplinary care and collaborate with providers.
- Serve as charge nurse, delegating appropriate tasks to licensed and unlicensed personnel.
- Document patient care in accordance with regulatory standards.
Qualifications
- Graduate from a nationally accredited nursing program (preferred).
- Current unencumbered RN license with the State Board of Nursing; multistate licensure acceptable.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing preferred.
- Maintain required department competencies and certifications.
- Demonstrated knowledge of nursing process and standards of practice.
