Steel Cell is seeking a motivated senior-level drafting/engineering student or recent graduate to join our Fabrication Engineering team as a paid Drafting/Engineering Intern. This part-time, in-person internship offers hands‑on experience working directly with an experienced drafting and engineering team, applying classroom skills to active fabrication projects. The intern will create 3D models and drawings, support fabrication design work, and learn how drafting and engineering processes are applied in a professional manufacturing environment.
The program is also designed to help Steel Cell identify candidates who may be a good fit for future full‑time drafting/engineering opportunities.
- Create 3D fabrication models and drawings using Autodesk Inventor.
- Read and interpret engineering and fabrication drawings.
- Prepare drawings that conform to ASME Y14.5 dimensioning and tolerancing standards and Steel Cell drafting practices.
- Work directly with the Fabrication drafting and engineering team on active company projects.
- Use design resources, reference documentation, and established Steel Cell processes to complete assigned work.
- Collaborate with experienced team members to clarify requirements and build your skills.
- Take on assigned work with increasing independence as your knowledge develops.
- Follow company policies, safety requirements, and confidentiality expectations. What You Will Learn:
- Apply classroom drafting and 3D modeling skills to real‑world fabrication projects.
- Learn how an engineering and drafting team supports day‑to‑day manufacturing operations.
- Become familiar with company‑specific design processes, requirements, and reference materials.
- Develop your ability to work independently while collaborating with an experienced team.
- Build professional‑level proficiency in Autodesk Inventor.
- Must be at least 18 years of age by the internship start date.
- Senior‑level student currently enrolled in an accredited college, university, technical, or trade program, or a graduate of such a program within the past 12 months.
- Authorized to work in the United States; must complete Form I‑9 employment eligibility verification within the required timeframe.
- Experience with Autodesk Inventor and 3D modeling. Academic or school project experience is acceptable.
- Ability to read and create technical drawings, with working familiarity with ASME Y14.5 standards as taught in an academic program.
- Availability for approximately 20 hours per week, scheduled around classes where applicable.
- Willingness to complete required onboarding and safety orientation before beginning work. Advanced GD&T experience is not required. Preferred
- Coursework or project experience in sheet metal, weldment, or fabrication design.
- Familiarity with AutoCAD or product data management tools such as Autodesk Vault.
- Exposure to manufacturing processes such as cutting, forming, welding, or assembly.
- Strong attention to detail and clear written and verbal communication. Work Schedule and Environment:
This is a part‑time, in‑person internship at Steel Cell in Baldwin, Georgia.
