The primary role is to direct and perform activities related to operating raise drill machinery, including moving, setup, pilot hole drilling, installation/removal of reamer, reaming, inspection, maintenance and tear down. Adherence to safety protocols and efficient teamwork are crucial. The Raisebore Operator mentors and trains the Raisebore Offsider and Assistant Raisebore Operator in the safe operation of Redpath raise drills.
Responsibilities- Maintain a safe and efficient working environment with authority and responsibility.
- Comprehend written and verbal instructions to perform duties safely and efficiently.
- Operate the assigned raise drill according to procedures (setup, adjustments for ground conditions, etc.).
- Direct crew members on duties related to safe and efficient operation of the raise drill.
- Provide training/mentoring to less-experienced project crew members.
- Connect raise drill components as required and monitor inventory (reamers, drill bits, spare parts) and communicate needs to the Project Superintendent.
- Read and interpret engineering plans to set up the raise drill and assemble components; perform minor repairs as required.
- Assist with maintaining a clean work site and proper storage of materials and spare parts.
- Follow proper procedures to ensure safety and to prevent equipment damage; operate and maintain heavy equipment.
- If operating a company vehicle, meet eligibility requirements and possess a current State Driver’s License and acceptable driving record.
- Keep work areas safe and free of hazards; perform Field Level Risk Assessments.
- Comply with daily, weekly and monthly safety directives, policies, and procedures; maintain confidentiality of Redpath and client information.
- Comply with Redpath’s Policies and Procedures as detailed in manuals, handbooks, directives, and SOPs.
- Able to work in excess of 40 hours per week, including overtime, day and night shifts, weekends, holidays and shift rotations.
- Adhere to Redpath Core Competencies; duties are representative of the nature and level of work and not necessarily all-inclusive.
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
- Assist other job functions as required.
Required: Secondary School Diploma or equivalent.
Preferred: Some college education in mechanical or trades-related field is an asset.
Work Experience- Required:
1-2 years of experience operating various classes of Redpath raise drills. - Preferred: 3-5 years of experience operating various classes of Redpath raise drills, with progression in size and complexity of projects.
- Experience with heavy equipment operation and maintenance.
- Proficiency in Pilot Drilling and Reaming in various geological conditions.
- Experience in Diamond or Production Drilling is beneficial.
- Demonstrate proper use and safe handling of tools, equipment and materials.
- Knowledge of the mining industry underground environment.
- Ability to read and understand engineering prints (civil, structural, rock excavation).
- Knowledge of mine regulations pertaining to construction in mining and raisebore drill operations.
- Ability to pass background clearance check, drug screening and physical.
- Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions; prepare written reports and correspondence.
- Effective verbal and written communication; ability to work in a team with minimal supervision.
- High attention to detail, neatness and accuracy; ability to work independently or collaboratively.
- Strong understanding of safety standards and protocols.
