Pay RangeThis range is provided by YMCA of Greater Providence. Your actual pay will be based on your skills and experience — talk with your recruiter to learn more.
Base pay range$18.00/hr - $18.00/hr

- Interested in becoming a Lifeguard with GPYMCA? Your training could be free.
- Applicants are required to be 16 by the end of the certification program and pass a physical skills test in advance.
- Positions are available at all our locations and camps.
- Min 15 hours per week preferred.
Monitor activities in swimming areas to provide a safe environment, enforce pool rules and regulations, and contribute to the enjoyment of the YMCA facility.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities- Ensure the health and safety of all individuals in the pool, perform rescue/first aid when necessary, and report accidents and injuries.
- Maintain pool cleanliness, monitor water quality, and report maintenance or safety issues.
- Follow operational procedures for opening and closing the pool and proper use of equipment.
- Support aquatics instructors during classes and attend staff meetings/events.
- Demonstrate and teach the YMCA core values of caring, respect, responsibility, and honesty.
- Arrive prepared for shifts, maintain visual surveillance, and work cooperatively with staff and members.
- May supervise Aquatics Aids.
- Ability to perform essential duties satisfactorily.
- Ability to anticipate and address members' needs for safety and enjoyment.
- Ability to complete required paperwork accurately and handle conflicts professionally.
- Follow instructions from supervisors.
- YMCA Lifeguard Certification or Equivalent State Lifeguard Certification.
- First Aid and CPR Certification (including 2-man and pocket mask use).
- Oxygen Administered Certification, Child Abuse Prevention, and other relevant trainings.
- Maintain certifications timely.
- Stand, walk, sit, use hands, reach, balance, stoop, kneel, and hear regularly.
- Occasionally lift/move up to 100 pounds.
Moderate noise level, exposure to blood borne pathogens, and other typical pool environment conditions. Reasonable accommodations available.
