Lake Tahoe Community College (LTCC) invites applications for a full‑time, tenure‑track History/Political Science faculty position. The department offers general‑education courses via online, face‑to‑face, and the Rising Scholars Program; the successful candidate will primarily teach face‑to‑face while also providing instruction in other modalities.
Responsibilities- Teach assigned courses in the History and Political Science curriculum across online, face‑to‑face, correspondence, and enhanced virtual education (EVE) modalities. At least 50 % of the course load in each primary term must be face‑to‑face instruction.
- Lead the department as the full‑time faculty member: develop curriculum, maintain instructional programs, assess student learning outcomes, handle departmental budgeting and scheduling, select textbooks and resources, and coordinate adjunct faculty.
- Participate in faculty meetings, departmental planning, community liaison, curriculum development, and committee assignments; enforce district regulations and policies.
- Refer students to counseling and other campus resources; foster a safe, respectful learning environment free from harassment, prejudice, or bias; demonstrate respect for all individuals.
- Develop and revise curriculum, assess outcomes, and support ongoing improvement through assessments.
- Serve as campus‑wide lead on civic engagement projects; build interest in the Political Science Transfer Degree; collaborate with faculty across the college.
- Ability to apply culturally responsive teaching and innovative pedagogical practices, such as participatory and critical‑thinking methodologies.
- Familiarity with the characteristics of community college students and ability to teach multiple subject areas.
- Understanding of the small‑college environment, ability to work independently, and desire to foster student civic engagement across campus.
- Interest and ability to incorporate technology into teaching and learning.
- Degree in History and a degree in Political Science, government, or international relations (master’s or higher in one discipline and bachelor’s or higher in the other), OR equivalent combined qualifications as outlined in the original description.
- Demonstrated ability to teach History and Political Science courses at the community‑college level.
- Demonstrated ability to perform the responsibilities listed above.
- Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of diverse student backgrounds.
- Salary Range: $66,053–$89,310 annually for a master’s holder; $83,229–$103,579 annually for a doctoral holder.
- Health and welfare benefits: medical, dental, vision, life insurance, long‑term disability; gold‑level medical plan covering ~80 % of healthcare expenses.
- Retirement: 19.1 % salary match into CalSTRS pension account for qualifying employees.
- Position: 177‑day contract covering fall, winter, and spring quarters; exempt from overtime; 10 days of sick leave accrue annually.
Selected candidates will be notified by phone on or about Wednesday, March 18, 2026. Initial interviews are tentatively scheduled for April 9 and 10, 2026, followed by a secondary process on May 6–7, 2026. Travel allowances and lodging are provided to qualifying applicants.
