Overview
Principal Environmental Planner at Stantec is a position based in Bishop, CA. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 15 years of broad professional environmental experience with emphasis in technical delivery, project and team management, and business development. Experience with community development, power, oil and gas, transportation, and water sector projects is preferred.
YourKey Responsibilities
- Manage and assist with technical delivery of environmental services related projects across a diverse range of market sectors.
- Provide project management and technical delivery including discretionary environmental permitting, California Environmental Quality Act/National Environmental Policy Act documentation, environmental technical studies, regulatory compliance services, and representation at stakeholder meetings/public hearings.
- Provide senior oversight, strategic support, and permitting expertise for water resources, resiliency planning, energy, and infrastructure projects.
- Lead and support local and regional marketing and business development activities to identify opportunities, prepare proposals, participate in interviews, and contracting that generate $1MM gross revenue or more annually.
- Supervise project/task order managers and technical staff; provide leadership in managing staff performance and mentoring within the Bishop office.
- Coordinate file management, safety oversight, subconsultant management, team coordination, task delegation, and preparation/review of deliverables; client interfacing, project progress monitoring, and invoicing.
- Manage client services including routine correspondence/meetings, opportunity capitalization, negotiation of commercial terms, health and safety metric reporting, feedback solicitation, and advocacy facilitation.
- Identify and coordinate participation in conferences and stakeholder events related to technical delivery and marketing/business development.
- Interface with Environmental Services colleagues and other Stantec Practices to enhance regional business development and cross-selling opportunities.
- Promote a strong health and safety culture.
- Ability to plan, direct, and monitor all aspects of large, multi-discipline projects and programs, as well as medium- and small-scale projects with varying constraints.
- Technical leadership and mentorship for complex problems; strong people leadership to grow multi-disciplinary teams.
- Strict adherence to health and safety procedures; good organizational skills and a passion for high-quality work.
- Ability to check own work for accuracy, manage time to meet budget and schedule, and initiate corrective actions for technical issues.
- Excellent analytical and written/verbal communication skills; public speaking skills are desirable.
- Ability to manage several project and business development tasks simultaneously; proficient in Microsoft Office.
- Valid driver s license and good driving record; periodic travel required (approximately 20%), with travel documents as needed.
- Pre-employment physical may be required; education: minimum 15 years of related professional experience; bachelor s degree in environmental science or related field (master s preferred).
- High level knowledge of CEQA/NEPA, FLPMA, CWA/ESA, NHPA, California Fish and Game Code, California Coastal Act.
Typical office environment with computer use; field work may involve exposure to the elements, including inclement weather.
