. This apprenticeship program is designed to guide you toward becoming a Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) Certified Pharmacy Technician, with training and support from Walgreens. Over the next months you will develop strong patient relationships and learn essential pharmacy skills.

Base Pay

$16.50/hr - $20.00/hr

Responsibilities
  • Assist the pharmacist, under direct supervision, in pharmacy practice in accordance with state and federal regulations.
  • Use pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions.
  • Coach pharmacy technicians in the use of pharmacy systems and cashier operations when certified.
  • Model and deliver a distinctive, delightful customer experience.
  • Engage patients and customers by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services.
  • Resolve customer issues and answer questions to ensure a positive customer experience.
  • Model and share customer service best practices with all team members.
  • Develop strong relationships with valuable customers.
  • Under pharmacist supervision, assist in practice of pharmacy, review compliance with Walgreens Co. Pharmacy Code of Conduct.
  • Enter patient and drug data accurately into pharmacy systems.
  • Fill prescriptions, retrieving, counting and pouring drugs, verifying accuracy, checking for interactions.
  • Assist pharmacists in scheduling and maintaining workflow.
  • Report prescription errors immediately to the pharmacist on duty and follow Company policies and the Quality Improvement Program.
  • Adhere to Good Faith Dispensing policy during prescription dispensing.
  • Register all sales on assigned cash register and handle cash as required.
  • Assist customers to OTC aisle when possible.
  • Handle telephone calls that do not require pharmacist attention.
  • Process manual claims for third‑party program prescription services timely and efficiently.
  • Perform other clerical duties as assigned by Pharmacy Manager.
  • Assist inventory management activities such as ordering, unpacking, checking and storing pharmaceutical shipments.
  • Apply knowledge of asset protection techniques and file claims for overages, shortages, and damaged goods.
  • Assist with clinical services including blood/urine sample collection and labeling.
  • Assist Pharmacy Manager and Staff Pharmacist in maintaining relationships with medical community (physicians, nurses, providers).
  • Assist with exterior and interior maintenance of Pharmacy Department ensuring supplies and appearance are adequate.
  • Comply with all company policies and procedures, maintaining respectful relationships with coworkers.
  • Complete special assignments and other tasks as assigned.
Training & Personal Development
  • Earn and maintain PTCB certification through the designated training program or state‑required certification/registration.
  • Attend training requests by Manager and acquire continuing education credits.
  • Maintain knowledge and skill in healthcare and pharmacy, including latest news and developments.
Basic Qualifications
  • Fluent reading, writing, and speaking English (except in Puerto Rico).
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience of at least six months in a retail environment.
  • Previous work experience with Walgreens.
  • Good math skills for accurate prescription filling.
  • Good computer skills.
  • Knowledge of store inventory control.
  • PTCB certification (preferred).
