The Bakery Clerk creates an outstanding customer experience through exceptional service, maintains a safe and clean environment, supports sales and profit goals, and monitors quality‑assurance standards while demonstrating Kroger’s core values of respect, honesty, integrity, diversity, inclusion, and safety.

• Prepare items per customer requests using proper bakery equipment.
• Offer product samples to help customers discover new items.
• Inform customers of bakery specials.
• Provide customers with fresh products in correct portion size to prevent shrink.
• Recommend bakery items to meet customer needs.
• Use all equipment in the bakery (refrigerators, freezers, ovens) according to company guidelines.
• Prepare foods according to the food temperature logs and follow cooking/baking instructions.
• Measure, prepare, and mix ingredients according to recipe, using various kitchen utensils and equipment.
• Adequately prepare, package, label, and inventory ingredients in merchandise.
• Check product quality to ensure freshness; review "sell by" dates and take appropriate action.
• Properly use kitchen equipment, stove, computerized scale, fryer, steamer, robot coupe, etc.
• Label, stock, and inventory department merchandise.
• Report product ordering/shipping discrepancies to the department manager.
• Understand the store's layout and locate products when requested by customers.
• Stay current with present, future, seasonal, and special ads.
• Gain and maintain knowledge of products sold in the department; answer questions and make suggestions.
• Maintain awareness of inventory/stocking conditions; note any discrepancies.
• Ensure proper temperatures in cases and coolers are maintained and temperature logs are kept.
• Promote trust and respect among associates.
• Create an environment that welcomes customers and makes them feel valued by answering questions about store products.
• Adhere to all food‑safety regulations and guidelines.
• Reinforce safety programs by complying with procedures and identifying unsafe conditions to notify store management.
• Display a positive attitude.
• Practice preventive maintenance by inspecting equipment and notifying appropriate department or store manager of needed repairs.
• Notify management of customer or employee accidents.
• Report all safety risks, issues, and illegal activity, including robbery, theft, or fraud.
• Perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

• Outstanding customer service skills.
• Desire to learn food production and basic cooking techniques.
• Effective communication skills and willingness to work as part of a team.
• Strong work ethic and ability to work in a fast‑paced environment with a sense of urgency.
• Good basic math skills.
• Ability to obtain a current food handlers permit once employed.
