Quality Engineer

The South Molton plant is based in Devon, UK and has over 400 employees. It commenced production in 1973, and an investment casting foundry opened on the site in 1975. The plant’s core focus is the design, manufacture and test of components primarily for the aerospace sector. The main customer is the Eaton facility at Titchfield, Hampshire, and external customers include Airbus, Boeing, Embraer and Augusta Westland.

• Provide quality customer interface and expertise to proactively assure requirements are understood and satisfied, including leading complaint resolution and root cause and corrective action execution.
• Support the manufacturing area in collecting and analysing quality data, providing expertise and ensuring product and process quality requirements are implemented through EQMS policies and quality best practice deployment.
• Solve technical product / process and business process problems using structured approaches such as 8D, Six Sigma, etc.
• Develop, implement and improve the appropriate quality management systems throughout the operation, providing advanced quality planning support during the development and launch of new products, processes and services.
• Participate in the auditing of internal quality systems and complete part approval documentation to assure that customer requirements are met in new or modified products and processes.
• Analyse organisational quality metrics and perform periodic reviews to evaluate results and recommend action plans to close gaps at an operational level.
• Develop and analyse statistical data and product/process performance to recommend and implement improvements in targeted areas.
• Contribute to the design and implementation of quality assurance training programmes and conduct training in quality-related topics.
• Participate in product development and launch activities including identification of customer expectations, manufacturing and test support, reliability analysis, design reviews, evaluation of test programmes and material testing.
• Support the development and evaluation of process capability, process control plans, analysis of out-of-control conditions and process audits.
• Develop, implement and audit inspection and test plans, standards and acceptance criteria, and procedures/work instructions.
• Investigate and eliminate causes of quality problems and follow up on corrective actions.
• Participate in the design, procurement, maintenance and evaluation of gages, measurement instruments, devices and test equipment.

• Degree education is preferable but not required.

• Thorough understanding of problem solving methods such as Six Sigma, 8D, root cause analysis and the associated statistical tools.
• Knowledge of Eaton’s quality system requirements.
• Detailed understanding of the key phases and requirements of an effective new product development and launch methodology.
• Detailed knowledge of lean manufacturing techniques, e.g., PFMEA, Critical to Quality characteristics, control plans.
• Detailed knowledge of industry and customer specific quality registration schemes and certification processes such as ISO
  9001, EASA Part 21, AS9100.
• Detailed knowledge of system and process auditing techniques to ensure compliance with defined quality requirements.
• Knowledge of lean manufacturing and process variation reduction concepts and toolsets as they relate to process/product variability, and root cause and corrective action determination.
• Knowledge of product and end user application/specifications, including product testing requirements.
• Thorough knowledge of gauging and basic understanding of product material properties.
• Understanding of engineering design and product reliability concepts and toolsets.
• Ability to lead cross‑functional process improvement teams.
• Advanced computer skills and experience in using database systems and Microsoft applications such as Excel, Word, SharePoint and PowerPoint.
