NHS Supply Chain has an exciting opportunity for a qualified Accountant to join our Finance team during a period of transformation and continuous improvement.

This role offers the chance to take ownership of key financial accounting activities, ensuring the integrity of the balance sheet, compliance with accounting standards, and the delivery of accurate and timely financial reporting. Working closely with internal and external stakeholders, auditors, and shared service teams, you will play a pivotal role in supporting statutory reporting, management accounts, financial analysis, and business decision‑making.

We're looking for a technically strong and detail-oriented finance professional who can combine robust accounting expertise with a continuous improvement mindset. You will help drive efficiencies across finance processes, support the implementation of audit recommendations, and provide insightful financial analysis that enables the organisation to deliver value, maintain strong financial controls, and support the NHS in delivering exceptional patient care.

Every day you will …
  • Take ownership of the balance sheet accounting for the organisation, ensuring balance sheet reconciliations are accurate, up to date and supported by suitable commentary.
  • Support delivery of internal monthly management reporting, quarterly stakeholder reporting, annual statutory accounting and periodic ONS reporting, ensuring accurate and timely production; liaising with audit teams as required.
  • Lead and manage process improvement in Finance processes, delivering efficiencies and shared service benefits.
  • Ensure internal and external audit recommendations related to processes are reviewed and implemented.
  • Maintain up to date knowledge of applicable accounting standards and regulations; ensuring the impact of any changes is interpreted, reviewed and applied in a timely manner.
  • Undertake ad hoc financial analysis/forecasting to support the business in effective and informed decision-making.
What can we offer you?
  • Hybrid working opportunities, giving you the flexibility to work collaboratively in the office and remotely.
  • We recognise our employees' hard work and contributions with annual bonus schemes, long service, and colleague recognition awards.
  • 27 days holiday plus bank holidays.
  • We are dedicated to your development, through in‑house training, support, and access to external qualifications to maximise your potential.
  • A focus on your well‑being offering 1 day of paid well‑being leave and free access to the 24/7 Employee Assistance Programme.
  • Generous pension scheme (with us contributing 12% when you contribute 6%).
  • Access to our Flexible Benefits Scheme, where you can choose from a variety of benefits such as Life Insurance, Critical Illness Cover, Income Protection, Health Cash Plan, Dental Insurance, and additional pension contributions that suit you.
  • 2 days of paid volunteering leave allowing you to give back to your community.
  • Access to many discounts from the Blue Light Card to NHS Discounts.
What skills will help you thrive in this role?
  • Fully qualified ACCA or CIMA accountant, or at the final stage of qualification with relevant practical accounting experience.
  • Extensive experience using Microsoft Office applications, particularly advanced Excel skills for financial analysis, reporting, and modelling.
  • Experience of working with Oracle financial systems is preferred, although not essential.
  • Experience working with data collection and analysis.
  • An adaptive mindset.
  • Building strong cross‑functional relationships and communicating with impact.
  • At least 1 - 3 years of previous experience in a similar role.
  • Experience of IFRS
16 Lease Accounting desirable but not essential.
