Duties and ResponsibilitiesThis search is part of a multiyear infusion of resources into the Counselor Education graduate portfolio, anticipating a start date of August 2026. The successful candidate is expected to lead the Department of Professional Psychology and Family Therapy as Department Chair for a three‑year term, maintain a strong presence on the South Orange campus, and engage in high‑impact activities with students, including teaching, advisement, mentoring, and program development.
- Maintain a 6‑credit teaching load per academic year, including courses within the Counseling portfolio.
- Maintain a robust scholarly agenda commensurate with a tenured appointment at an R2 university.
- Active service across the University, College, Department, and discipline.
- Curriculum development and program assessment, review, and revision.
- Student advisement and mentorship.
- Commitment to the University’s mission.
Launched in Summer 2023, Seton Hall’s College of Human Development, Culture, and Media (CHDCM) embodies the University’s commitment to pedagogical innovation and community engagement. The College houses four departments:
Communication, Media, and the Arts;
Education Leadership, Management, and Policy;
Educational Studies; and Professional Psychology and Family Therapy. With approximately 1,550 students, CHDCM is the second largest college at Seton Hall University.
- Earned doctoral degree in Counselor Education from an accredited institution, or fulfillment of CACREP core faculty requirements.
- Demonstrated record of scholarly accomplishments commensurate with a tenured appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor.
- Demonstrated record of excellence in teaching and graduate student mentorship commensurate with a tenured appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor.
- Evidence of leadership in professional counseling organizations.
- Prior leadership/administrative experience (e.g., program director, department chair).
- Experience teaching courses on‑campus and alternate modalities with demonstrated effectiveness.
- Licensed or license‑eligible in Professional Counseling in the state of New Jersey.
- New Jersey School Counselor certification or eligibility for same.
- Demonstrated evidence of, or potential for, grant writing.
- Interest in interdisciplinary collaborations, research, and academic innovation across the College’s departments.
$92,037 - $111,178 (top end assumes appointment at the rank of Professor; Department Chair secondary appointment negotiated with Dean)
