QC Technician

Title of Position: Quality Control Technician

As a Silvi Materials Quality Control Technician, you will ensure that concrete chemistry and construction projects comply with plans and specifications. This position includes industry testing of concrete consistency, air, water, color, and chemical content. You will communicate with and interact with construction personnel, inspectors, plant managers, and drivers concerning the concrete materials used on a particular job.

• Arrive at the plant or job site prior to the first concrete delivery.
• Perform initial and ongoing testing of aggregates and concrete for gradation, moisture, slump, air content, and temperature.
• After evaluating these factors, maintain contact with plant operations and/or QC to ensure the necessary adjustments to the mix are made.
• When concrete is delivered to the job site, place a sample in cylinders for testing.
• In the lab, perform compressive strength tests on concrete cylinders.
• Compare test results to design values to ensure compliance with specifications.
• Communicate findings to the appropriate individuals and agencies.
• Handle concrete during various testing procedures.

• Industry experience is preferred but not required.
• Some college or further education is preferred but not required.
• Travel to and from various plants and client locations using your own vehicle; mileage and tolls will be reimbursed.
• Valid driver's license.
• Ability to work a wide variety of hours and a flexible schedule as required by the company and clients.
• Availability to work overtime hours, Saturdays, and night pours as required.
• Understanding of the components that make up the product and how they interact.
• Ability to troubleshoot and correct problems that arise with the product.
• Knowledge of proper concrete testing techniques.
• Preferably ACI Level 1 certified or willing to undergo paid training and testing to obtain the certification.
• Willingness to undergo a motor vehicle records check.
• Willingness to work outdoors, in all weather, handling concrete testing on site.
• Capability to lift up to 100 lbs of liquid concrete using a wheelbarrow.

• Lifting 50 pounds regularly and up to 100 pounds on occasion.
• Using one or two hands to grasp, move, or assemble objects.
• Standing for long periods of time.
• Kneeling, stooping, crouching, bending, stretching, twisting, or crawling as required.
• Heard and recognize sounds within the workspace.
• Seeing details of objects that are less than a few feet away.
• Seeing differences between colors, shades, and brightness.
