Work remotely; ideally within New York State but candidates from New England region considered. Some travel to client sites required a couple times per month.
NYS Department of Finance Services - Casualty General Adjuster License required.
General DescriptionSupervise activities of 1 claim handler within the third‑party administration (TPA) claims handling department responsible for supervising, processing, paying, and resolving liability claims.
Responsibilities- Supervise one claim handler including hiring, training, career development, performance reviews, and performance improvement plans.
- Monitor daily activities of the claim handler to ensure compliance with policies, procedures, and regulatory guidelines.
- Provide direction, set goals, evaluate results, and ensure that staff goals are attained.
- Co‑coach, counsel, train, and give guidance to staff, assigning responsibilities and monitoring progress.
- Ensure adherence to policies, procedures, standards, and guidelines and coordinate compliance with regulatory agencies.
- Supervise ongoing claim activities, including receiving client claims, research, payment determination, and claims administration.
- Review claim files to ensure appropriate payments, policy compliance, and timeliness.
- Visit clients and maintain strong business relationships; communicate with production and customer service areas.
- Assist staff with complex aspects of work; resolve escalated issues by conferring with managers, other departments, and clients.
- Manage scheduling and assignment of work to ensure deliverables meet guidelines.
- Provide regular performance updates to management and take corrective action.
- Stay knowledgeable of current developments in the TPA claims industry and share information with staff.
- Participate in civic activities to promote community growth and a positive company image.
- Participate in special projects and perform additional duties as required.
- Contribute to a positive, ethical, and respectful work environment and communicate openly with others.
- 4‑year degree or equivalent education and work experience.
- 10–15 years of liability claims experience (auto and general liability).
- Strong knowledge of liability claims management, legal and regulatory requirements.
- Supervisory skills and experience to coach, train, and motivate staff.
- Ability to evaluate data and formulate claims strategy; negotiate to resolve large claims at minimum cost.
- Strong organizational and project‑management skills for large client volume.
- Proficient with claims‑management technology applications.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ongoing education required to maintain licensing.
- Sales presentation skills.
- Strong analytical thinking and problem‑solving skills.
- Teamwork orientation.
- Travel required, at least a couple times per month.
