Dual Language Immersion Teacher (Chinese or Spanish) PERM

Granite School District seeks Junior High Dual Language Immersion Teachers (Chinese or Spanish) in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Responsibilities

Essential functions may include, but are not limited to:

  • Teach students in grades six through eight in the target language of instruction (Chinese or Spanish) using the Utah Dual Language Immersion program model and the Utah State Board of Education Core Curriculum, achieving an Advanced‑Mid or higher proficiency level.
  • Develop lesson plans and instructional materials, provide individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to students’ needs.
  • Translate lesson plans into productive learning experiences, utilizing technology and classroom support equipment.
  • Supervise students indoors and outdoors, including recess and gymnasium activities.
  • Establish and maintain standards of student behavior and discipline strategies.
  • Evaluate students’ academic and social growth, maintain records, and prepare progress reports.
  • Implement Proficiency‑Based Learning and Granite Way practices.
  • Communicate with parents via conferences, phone, email, student planners, and the school website.
  • Collaborate with other staff on students’ academic and personal growth.
  • Maintain attendance, physical presence, and timeliness.
  • Create an effective learning environment with functional displays and bulletin boards.
  • Provide a safe and supportive environment in the classroom and on campus.
  • Maintain professional competence through in‑service education and self‑selected growth activities.
  • Participate in faculty meetings and evaluation procedures as required.
  • Administer student attendance policies and procedures.
  • Administer standardized tests following state and district procedures.
  • Participate in faculty committees and student activities sponsorship.
  • Select and requisition instructional materials and maintain inventory records.
  • Model professional and ethical standards in interactions with students, parents, and community members.
  • Understand and adhere to laws, district policies, and procedures.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, staff, and community.
  • Demonstrate professional ethics as outlined by the Utah Professional Practices Advisory Commission.
  • Serve as a positive role model.
  • Develop an Individual Educational Plan (IEP) for each eligible student.
  • Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

NOTE:

This position may teach at any school within Granite School District where grades six through eight are taught, all within Salt Lake County, Utah.]

Requirements

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Teaching, Education, or the target language of instruction (Chinese or Spanish), or a closely related field.
  • Foreign equivalency acceptable.

License:

  • Educator license with endorsements in World Language and Dual Language Immersion issued by Utah State Board of Education.
  • Or eligible to obtain license within 90 days of hiring date.
  • Or meet all requirements to enroll in the District’s Educator Licensing APPEL Program.

Other requirements:

  • If required license not yet obtained, must have an Oral Proficiency Interview score of Advanced‑Mid or higher for both Target Language of Instruction and English, or a post‑secondary degree from a country where the Target Language of Instruction is the primary language; or an English proficiency degree from a country where English is the primary language.
  • Clear a USBE‑approved criminal background check.
  • Demonstrate ability to promote an active language learning environment and to handle classroom management calmly.
