Responsibilities- Implement drills and practice exercises designed by the teacher for groups and individual students.
- Maintain accurate data on assigned groups and/or individual students.
- Supervise and monitor student instructional activities within the school and in assigned community settings (e.g., public transportation, recess supervision, employment skill development, self‑help, and personal skill acquisition).
- Provide personal maintenance care for students related to self‑help and hygiene (e.g., tube feeding, oral feeding, toilet training, diaper change, tooth brushing).
- Apply appropriate procedural strategies consistently in managing student behavior in accordance with district policies.
- Support a school environment that promotes a positive self‑concept.
- Ensure a safe learning environment by supervising students.
- Use classroom materials and technology appropriately.
- Assist students in regular classes.
- Prepare and adapt instructional materials under the direction of the classroom teacher.
- Maintain professional confidentiality regarding student progress and physical/emotional limitations.
- Work assigned hours and, when required, supervise buses.
- Participate in professional development training required by the Special Education Department.
- Attend and provide physical presence as an essential function of this position.
- Other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- For Title 1 schools: either 48 hours of college credit or pass the Para Pro exam.
- Prior work with individuals with disabilities preferred.
- Follow directions from the special education teacher and related service professionals for instructional practice, behavioral interventions, and functional skills development.
- Operate specific achievement testing and data collection tools.
- Effectively manage stress.
- Make decisions about task completion and follow guidelines while suggesting improvements.
- Identify and address safety concerns for self and others.
- Interact positively with students, parents, staff, teachers, administration, and other district personnel.
- Oversee student safety.
- Work setting primarily in the classroom, but may be required indoors and outdoors under varying weather conditions.
- May experience stress from disruptive student groups.
- Must be able to stand, sit, lift up to 50 lb, climb, balance, and perform other physical tasks as needed.
- Must maintain close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.

Job Summary:
The Special Education resource para educator supports the supervising teacher with various tasks to aid instruction and classroom programming, working under the teacher’s direction. Attendance, physical presence, and punctuality are essential.
