Elementary Dual Language Immersion Teacher (PERM) position in the Granite School District’s Utah Dual Language Immersion program model. Candidate will teach 1st‑through‑5th grades in the Target Language of Instruction (Chinese, French, or Spanish) while supporting Utah State Board of Education core curriculum and meeting ACTFL OPI proficiency levels.
Responsibilities- Teach students in 1st‑through‑5th grades using the Target Language of Instruction and the Utah Dual Language Immersion program model linked to the USBE core curriculum.
- Develop lesson plans, instructional materials, and provide individualized and small‑group instruction to adapt the curriculum to student needs.
- Translate lesson plans into productive student learning experiences that best utilize instructional time.
- Utilize computers and classroom technology to support student instruction.
- Supervise students indoors and outdoors, including recess duty and gymnasium activities.
- Establish and maintain standards of student behavior to achieve a functional learning atmosphere through organization and discipline strategies.
- Evaluate students’ academic and social growth, maintain records, and prepare progress reports.
- Implement Proficiency‑Based Learning evaluation and the Granite Way as appropriate.
- Communicate with parents through conferences, telephone calls, e‑mails, student planners, school website, and other appropriate means.
- Cooperate with other professional staff regarding students’ academic and personal growth areas.
- Maintain attendance, physical presence, and timeliness for the position.
- Create an effective learning environment through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards, and interest centers.
- Provide and maintain a safe and supportive environment in the classroom and on the school campus.
- Maintain professional competence through in‑service education activities and self‑selected professional growth activities.
- Participate in faculty meetings as required.
- Administer student attendance policies and procedures.
- Participate in educator evaluation procedures per district guidelines.
- Administer group standardized tests in accordance with state and district testing procedures.
- Participate in faculty committees and sponsor student activities.
- Select and requisition books and instruction materials, maintain required inventory records.
- Model professional and ethical standards when dealing with students, parents, colleagues, and community members.
- Understand and adhere to laws, district policies, and procedures.
- Maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, school staff, district staff, and community members.
- Demonstrate professional ethics as outlined by the Utah Professional Practices Advisory Commission.
- Behave as a positive role model.
- Develop an Individual Educational Plan (IEP) for each eligible student.
- Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in Teaching, Education, or a closely related field. A foreign equivalent is acceptable.
- Educator license with endorsements in World Language and Dual Language Immersion issued by Utah State Board of Education; or be eligible to obtain said license and endorsements within 90 days of hiring date; or meet requirements to enroll in the District’s Educator Licensing APPEL Program.
- Clear USBE‑approved criminal background check.
- Demonstrated ability to promote and facilitate an active language learning environment using the Target Language of Instruction.
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain a positive learning environment and handle classroom management issues in a calm manner.
- If the required license and endorsements are not yet obtained, the applicant must have received an Oral Proficiency Interview (OPI) score of Advanced‑Mid or higher for both the Target Language of Instruction and English as administered by the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL).
- Alternatively, the applicant may have received a post‑secondary degree from an institution of higher education located in a country where the Target Language of Instruction is the primary language; or demonstrate English proficiency by receiving a post‑secondary degree from an institution of higher education located in a country where English is the primary language.
