AboutThe Role
Sana Biotechnology is growing, and we are hiring new team members who believe in the potential of engineered cells as medicines, who want to challenge the status quo, and who lead with the desire to work on novel ideas. As a Vice President of Business Development, Search and Evaluation, you will report to the Chief Financial Officer and lead activities to access external therapeutic programs and technologies, including sourcing, evaluation, and negotiation of in-licensing, collaboration, M&A, equity, and out-licensing deals.
WhatYou'll Do
- Lead sourcing and negotiation of partnerships with pharmaceutical companies for development and commercialization of Sana programs or platforms.
- Proactively source, evaluate, and negotiate high-impact collaborations, licensing, equity, and acquisition opportunities.
- Enable and lead decision-making through all deal stages, including seeking approval from the Executive Team and Board of Directors.
- Oversee negotiation strategies with prospective partners, aligning collaboration structures with scientific and business needs, and make deal recommendations to key stakeholders.
- Develop and oversee short- and long-term business development strategies aligned with Sana's corporate priorities.
- Manage multiple complex projects, prioritizing with key stakeholders and aligning with corporate goals.
- Set and drive the implementation of partnering strategies in collaboration with the executive team.
- Oversee development of business development capabilities, processes, and practices.
- Establish relationships with internal functions (R&D, Tech Ops, Legal, Finance) to support BD transactions.
- Represent Sana at external meetings, conferences, and seminars to access new opportunities and develop networks.
- Ensure high-quality opportunity assessments and due diligence reviews.
- Contribute to Sana's mission through achievement of key goals.
- Engage and influence team members across diverse teams while managing multiple projects and deadlines.
- Promote curiosity, scientific rigor, and problem-solving skills in a fast-paced environment.
- Assess talent to help grow Sana's organization and culture.
- Minimum 9+ years of business development experience in life sciences and 12+ years in drug development.
- Passionate, results-driven professional.
- Experience leading and negotiating complex transactions, including licensing and acquisitions.
- Familiarity with drug development, especially in cell and gene therapy.
- Experience leading cross-functional diligence and deal teams.
- Excellent communication skills to articulate Sana's value proposition.
- Strong influencing skills across organizational levels.
- Decisive, capable of balancing trade-offs in complex areas.
- Excellent analytical and strategic skills.
- Base pay range is $325,000 - $375,000/year, depending on factors like location, experience, and skills.
