. This position supports early childhood education with a focus on curriculum design, classroom leadership, and family engagement.
- Design, plan, and implement a quality early childhood education classroom aligned with the program’s philosophy and curriculum.
- Mentor assigned classroom peers and provide support to the Site Supervisor or Manager.
- Develop lesson plans that meet Individualized Learning Plans (ILPs) and reflect program standards such as Creative Curriculum, Early Learning Foundations, and Anti‑bias curriculum.
- Complete developmental screenings (DRDPs) and implement Individual and Family Service Plans (IFSPs) for children with special needs.
- Maintain a clean, attractive, and functional learning environment, performing tasks such as cleaning, washing dishes, sweeping, and setting up equipment.
- Adhere to program evaluation tools (Environment Rating Scale, CLASS, Desired Results, NAEYC standards) and program policies, including health and safety regulations.
- Communicate with parents regularly, maintain positive relationships, and facilitate family involvement in the classroom.
- Plan, prepare, and implement developmentally appropriate activities for the assigned group of children.
- Serve as a resource for materials and support staff supervision.
- Ensure classroom and outdoor area maintain required staff‑child ratios and safe supervision.
- Participate in program evaluation and record‑keeping (attendance, food counts, assessments).
- Maintain verbal and written contact with parents, documenting concerns and achievements.
- Prepare written items for the parent newsletter and attend parent meetings and conferences.
- Model appropriate adult/child interactions and support parent/infant attachment.
- Supervise Associate Teachers or Assistant Teacher Aides as assigned.
- Assist in training and mentoring new teaching staff.
- Use monitoring systems (Environment Rating Scale, Classroom Assessment Scoring System) to evaluate program performance.
- Conduct emergency procedures (fire drills, CPR, first aid) and complete monthly Safety Checklists.
- Maintain accurate record‑keeping for childcare food program, attendance, and child assessments.
- Assume duties of Site Supervisor during periods of absence.
- Collaborate with the child development team to achieve classroom and center goals.
- Perform physical tasks required for the role (reach 25 feet, lift 40 pounds, interact on the floor).
- Follow all organization policies, Child Protective Services mandates, and Community Care Licensing regulations.
Master Teachers must consult with the Site Supervisor for changes to classroom activities, parent discussions, or work shift changes, and for any accidents or concerns involving children, parents, or staff.
Requirements- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Child Development Master Teacher Permit or eligibility to apply.
- B.A. in early childhood education or 24+ early childhood units, 16 general education units, 6 early childhood specialty units, and 2 adult supervision units.
- Infant/Toddler Master Teachers must have a minimum of 3 units in infant/toddler education.
Master Teachers must verbally communicate with parents and adults in English, use grammatically correct language, and when possible, speak in the child’s home language.
Preferred Language SkillsAbility to speak with children and families in their native language; bilingual abilities may be required for some classrooms.
Other Requirements- Maintain a clear Criminal Background Check/Fingerprinting.
- Provide a negative Tuberculin test and health report within 30 days of hire, then every four years.
- CPR and First Aid certification (or obtain within 3 months of employment) and maintain it throughout employment.
- Maintain a valid Master Teacher permit while employed.
- Submit evidence of completion of education requirements prior to hire.
