Position: 2025-26 Instructional Coach

SSFUSD's Board of Trustees has approved four new Instructional Coach roles for the 2025-26 school year, and our District is excited to hire for a final Instructional Coach for SUNSHINE GARDENS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL to round out our team.

OVERVIEW OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT

The South San Francisco Unified School District (SSFUSD) community includes 15 schools supporting 8,000 students in Daly City, San Bruno, and South San Francisco.

Our mission is that in partnership with our community, SSFUSD will provide exceptional instruction, engaging experiences, and equitable and accessible opportunities and resources to further support our diverse student body so that students are equipped to learn, thrive, navigate their future with purpose, and impact their community.

In February 2024, the School Board for SSFUSD adopted our new Vision and Five-Year Strategic Plan. As a member of the cabinet, the Assistant Superintendent of Talent, will be responsible for leading initiatives to ensure the district delivers on its promises in the strategic plan.

POSITION SUMMARY

SSFUSD is seeking a dynamic, equity-focused, and inclusive instructional coach to join our school community. SSFUSD refuses to accept that the educational outcomes of students in our district are overwhelmingly predictable based on students’ race, socioeconomics, ethnicity or learning differences. We remain committed to working each day to examine systemic, institutional, and individual biases in order to dismantle systems of inequities that will enable all students to thrive.

Instructional coaches are key to supporting teachers in this mission.

The instructional coach will report to the principal and not be considered management. The instructional coach will support teachers, but not have any supervisory responsibilities.

  • Guide teachers to set, plan, implement, and monitor progress towards student-centered instructional goals (for example, by co-planning, modeling, observing, collecting & analyzing multiple sources of data, providing feedback, engaging in reflection, etc.)
  • Lead coaching cycles of inquiry as a structure for reflection and action, which may include professional learning communities (PLCs), lesson study, or instructional rounds
  • Design and facilitate group professional learning (PL) and/or individualized coaching / feedback sessions on pedagogy (lesson planning, classroom management, engagement strategies, instructional strategies, differentiation, assessment, examination of student work, data analysis, feedback and reflection, etc.), content standards, and district curriculum to improve instructional practices
  • Implement systems to evaluate the effectiveness of coaching through coaching logs, teacher, student, principal, and coaching coordinator feedback, analysis of instructional practices, and analysis of student assessment and progress data
  • Attend and engage in professional development meetings, trainings, and events led by SSFUSD and other training / professional development opportunities relevant to their roles
  • Collaborate with other SSFUSD staff members, including teachers, administrators, instructional coaches, teachers on special assignment (TOSAs), reading specialists, etc.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by their supervisor and the Superintendent of SSFUSD

* Note:

The job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of duties, responsibilities, and activities that are required of the employee. Duties, responsibilities, and activities may change or new ones may be assigned at any time with or without notice.
