Job DetailsWe are seeking an experienced and dynamic individual to fill the position of Permanent Director of Payroll in the Nonprofit industry. This pivotal role within the organization is responsible for the oversight, management, and strategic direction of payroll operations. The successful candidate will be a proven leader with a deep understanding of payroll processes, audit requirements, and wage regulations, particularly within the state of California.
Responsibilities- Oversee the entire payroll process, ensuring all employees are paid accurately and on time.
- Manage a team of payroll specialists, providing guidance, support, and performance management.
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local payroll, wage and hour laws and best practices.
- Develop and implement policies and procedures to identify and prevent timecard fraud.
- Conduct regular audits of payroll procedures to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Collaborate with HR and Finance departments to ensure seamless integration of payroll functions.
- Prepare and disseminate clear and concise payroll-related memos and communications.
- Keep abreast of current payroll tax requirements and relevant laws associated with the processing of employee wage data, including payroll taxes, employee federal and state income and social security taxes, etc.
- Manage payroll workload to meet operational requirements.
- Ensure payroll is processed in an accurate, compliant and timely manner.
- BA/BS in Finance, Business Administration, or a related field (required).
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a payroll leadership role, supporting a 500+ employee workforce (required).
- Demonstrated experience and proficiency in UKG Ready system implementation and administration (required).Demonstrated experience in conducting heavy audits and detecting timecard fraud.
- Strong leadership and team management skills, with a proven ability to supervise and inspire a team.
- Exceptional communication skills, with a proven ability to write clear and concise memos and other communications.
- A high level of integrity and discretion in handling confidential information.
- Strong problem‑solving and decision‑making capabilities.
- Proven experience in managing a high volume, complex payroll system.
- Extensive knowledge of California wage laws and regulations.
- Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) preferred.
