The Opportunity

The Symposia Lead plays a pivotal role in elevating Genentech’s thought leadership and reputation through the design and execution of convenings that define the national dialogue on population health and equity. As the architect of the AIR Symposia series and related Population Health engagements, this individual is responsible for curating community-based immersive experiences that reflect Genentech’s scientific leadership, cultural relevance, and narrative strategy.

Reporting to the External Engagement Head within the Population Health CoE, this role partners with various stakeholders across the organization to shape events that are not only flawlessly delivered but also strategically integrated with enterprise goals. From shaping the speaker lineup and thematic framing to overseeing execution and media amplification, the Symposia Lead ensures that every convening reflects Genentech’s values and strategic objectives.

This leader brings both creative and operational fluency - balancing content design with tactical oversight. They also work closely with the External Engagement Head and external partners to ensure that Symposia insights are captured, evaluated, and translated into enterprise influence. This is a role for someone who views events not as stand-alone moments, but as systems-level drivers of narrative, influence, and long-term strategic alignment.

Key Responsibilities

Event Design & Strategy
  • Design and lead the AIR Symposia and other key convenings, focusing on content strategy, speaker selection, and agenda curation to align with enterprise and population health priorities.
  • Integrate insights from community councils, the AIR External Council, and external forums, while partnering with the External Engagement Head to embed strategic narrative priorities, including themes related to congressional engagement and transformative advocacy.
Cross-Functional Leadership & Planning
  • Direct cross-functional teams in planning and executing symposia, managing all aspects of pre-event preparation, including stakeholder briefings, speaker training, and the event run‑of‑show.
  • Partner with Communications to develop and implement integrated amplification strategies across various channels, such as press, social media, internal storytelling, and external education.
Event Operations & Logistics
  • Manage full-cycle event logistics, including vendor coordination, budget oversight, contracts, compliance approvals, and speaker management, while overseeing on‑site delivery to ensure flawless execution reflecting enterprise priorities.
Measurement & Continuous Improvement
  • Evaluate and document event performance using key metrics (attendance, engagement, media reach, follow‑up) to drive continuous improvement for future Symposia.
  • Integrate Symposia‑derived insights into Genentech’s broader CMG Population Health strategy and programming to ensure continuity and enterprise‑wide impact.

Who you are

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Health, Event Management, or related field.
  • 7–10 years of experience managing strategic events and convenings in healthcare, advocacy, or academic settings.
  • Proven track record in content curation and high‑stakes stakeholder engagement.
  • Strong project management and logistical planning capabilities, including budget oversight.
  • Experience working with compliance‑sensitive content and managing vendor relationships.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead diverse, cross‑functional teams toward shared outcomes.

Preferred Qualifications & Experience

  • Master’s degree in Communications, Public Health, Event Management, or related field.
  • Experience designing and executing national‑level or global symposia, summits, or multi‑stakeholder forums.
  • Familiarity with health equity, population health, or scientific/medical convenings and ability to translate complex topics into compelling event experiences.
