Engineer Associate/Research Associate - DNA Synthesis Platform
Join to apply for the Engineer Associate/Research Associate, DNA Synthesis Platform role at Atlas Data Storage
. Atlas Data Storage is an information technology company building data storage products leveraging the unique properties of synthetic DNA. We are seeking a highly motivated Engineer Associate to join our R&D team dedicated to advancing our massively parallel semiconductor-based Enzymatic DNA synthesis platform. This position will engage in hands‑on bench‑level work and collaborate closely with our Synthesis and Engineering team to design, build, and experiment on prototype platforms to advance our proprietary DNA synthesis technology.
- Directly support the development of Atlas’s CMOS chip‑based DNA synthesis platform and workflow.
- Perform regular on‑chip DNA synthesis runs, encompassing reagent preparation, meticulous chip handling, software script verification, and operation of the custom DNA synthesizer. Undertake detailed experimental notes to evaluate and optimize various process variables.
- Collaborate with senior engineers and scientists to design experiments, execute testing, and perform data collection and analysis to investigate surface, chemical, and fluidic processes.
- Analyze experimental data and clearly present findings in a group setting.
- Actively contribute to various sub‑tasks within the DNA synthesis platform and workflow, solving scientific problems related to DNA synthesis chemistry and system engineering.
- Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering, Bioengineering, Chemical Engineering or other relevant fields. Master’s degree or 2‑5 years work experience in an industry setting is desirable.
- Prior experience with custom instrumentation within a workflow: running experiments to characterize an instrument, chip, or other modules involved in the process.
- Experience with troubleshooting and fixing system components related to mechanical (CAD modelling/fixture design), electrical (basic circuit design/PCB design), and fluidic (flow cells and/or microfluidics).
- Experience in research of solid‑phase oligonucleotide (DNA) synthesis (phosphoramidite or enzymatic) – a plus.
- Knowledge of electrochemistry, microscale processes and surface chemistry – a plus.
- Self‑learner with the ability to grasp concepts and techniques on the go and the desire to wear multiple hats within a small unit.
- Mobility:
Move around the laboratory and office environment regularly, standing and walking for extended periods up to 6–8 hours per day. - Manual Dexterity:
Handle delicate instruments, operate laboratory equipment, pipette accurately, and perform repetitive benchwork with precision. - Lifting/Carrying:
Lift and carry up to 40 pounds occasionally. - Visual Acuity:
Read small print on labels, instrument displays, and computer monitors; close, color, and focus adjustment required. - Communication:
Communicate effectively in spoken and written English, including reading technical documents and participating in team meetings. - Environmental Conditions:
Frequently exposed to typical laboratory conditions, including biological samples, chemicals, and reagents. Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) as required. - Posture:
Stand, sit, bend, and reach over lab benches or into biosafety cabinets frequently.
80,000 – 115,000 USD per year (HQ)
