Who You AreThis is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated Senior Research Associate with a strong background in cancer biology to join BBOT’s search for innovative cancer therapeutics. We are looking for a talented and enthusiastic individual who thrives in a collaborative, fast‑paced, and growing environment to join our team as a laboratory‑based leader. As a key member of the Oncology Therapeutics Group, you will:
Responsibilities- Play a critical intellectual and technical role in the discovery and development of novel small molecule cancer therapeutics.
- Independently design, conduct, and analyze experiments to advance our understanding of cancer biology and propel drug discovery programs across our oncology pipeline.
- Execute experiments (biochemical and cell‑based assays) to assess the inhibition or activation of cell signaling in the oncology setting, including in response to small molecule inhibitors.
- Conduct compound screening (including medium‑ and high‑throughput studies) to identify leads and potential combination therapies.
- Develop novel tools (such as engineered cell lines, i.e. CRISPR, over-expression, shRNA) and assays as needed to support the group’s discovery mission.
- Develop and optimize biomarker assays to address critical clinical development questions such as target engagement, predictive biomarkers, and mechanisms of drug resistance.
- Communicate your findings across seniority levels within and beyond BBOT.
- Collaborate closely with colleagues across scientific functions and departments, providing key scientific expertise and guidance in an interdisciplinary environment.
- Provide scientific and technical leadership to junior team members.
- Keep complete and timely records in electronic lab notebooks.
- B.A./B.S. + 5 years industry experience or M.S.+ 3 years’ industry experience in a cell/molecular biology laboratory within an oncology setting.
- Broad knowledge of cancer biology and independence in critical thinking and scientific achievement.
- Experience with a broad range of cellular and biochemical techniques, including mammalian tumor cell culture and engineering, CRISPR, si/shRNA, immuno‑blotting, NGS, IF/IHC, Flow cytometry, and MSD.
- Research experience in oncology drug discovery project teams, adherent and suspension cancer cell‑based assay design, and assay development is advantageous.
- Strong problem‑solving skills and a commitment to continuous learning and development.
- Ability to excel in a highly‑collaborative and innovative environment.
This role is based in South San Francisco, CA and operates in a hybrid capacity, with an expected 2-3 days per week onsite. Flexibility may be considered for exceptional candidates with deep public company or biotech experience.

The annual salary range for this position is $98,500 - $112,500 in the San Francisco Bay Area. BBOT considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, skills, education, qualifications, and geographic location. Actual compensation will vary, and it is not typical to be hired at or near the top of the range for the role.
