. Surrozen is a biotechnology company pioneering targeted therapeutics that selectively activate the Wnt Pathway for tissue repair and regeneration, with a focus on ophthalmology programs.

We are seeking a highly motivated Senior Scientist to support drug development programs in ophthalmology. The role involves establishing in‑vitro model systems, cell‑based assays, and in‑vivo MOA studies in animal eye disease models. The successful candidate will have a PhD in Biochemistry/Cell and Molecular Biology/Developmental Biology/Neurobiology and, ideally, postdoctoral training in eye biology or ophthalmology. A strong publication record, scientific vision, critical thinking, and technical versatility are essential.

Pay Range: $110,435 – $178,247

• Design and execute experiments, including in‑vitro cell‑based and in‑vivo animal studies.
• Identify and validate potential drug targets through molecular and cellular biology techniques.
• Develop, optimize, and run high‑throughput screening assays for drug candidates.
• Analyze, interpret, and present complex experimental data to guide drug development decisions.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams (protein biochemists, pharmacologists, data scientists) to advance discovery programs.
• Manage external CRO projects and maintain communication with scientific advisors and consultants.
• Contribute to scientific strategy and stay current with literature in ophthalmology therapeutics.
• Publish findings as conference abstracts, patents, and peer‑reviewed papers following Surrozen publication strategy.

• Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Developmental Biology, Neurobiology, or related field.
• Minimum 2+ years of eye research experience with a track record of peer‑reviewed publications.
• Proficiency in molecular cloning, qPCR, siRNA, CRISPR‑Cas9, IF/IHC, ISH/FISH, FACS, ELISA, Western blotting, IP, mammalian cell/organoid culture, reporter/enzymatic assays, animal tissue manipulation, and primary cell isolation.
• Expertise in fluorescence confocal microscopy and imaging analysis.
• Experience with in‑vitro, ex‑vivo, and animal retinal disease models.
• Knowledge of antibody therapeutic development is highly desired.
• Experience with high‑throughput sequencing, single‑cell sequencing, spatial transcriptomics, proteomics, and R programming is a plus.
• Excellent organizational and communication skills; self‑motivated and detail‑oriented.
• Experience coaching junior scientists or students and strong interpersonal skills.
