Scientist I, Medicinal Chemistry – Bio Space
We’re looking for a passionate scientist with experience in synthetic organic chemistry to join our collaborative drug discovery team. In this lab‑based role, you’ll design and synthesize novel molecules that could transform patient care. You’ll work closely with colleagues across disciplines to optimize compounds for potency, selectivity, and pharmacokinetics, and contribute to advancing innovative drug discovery programs.
Responsibilities- Design and synthesize novel chemical entities aligned with project goals.
- Conduct multi‑step syntheses of complex small molecules and characterize intermediates and final products.
- Collaborate with chemists, biologists, and external partners to optimize pharmacological properties.
- Contribute to patents, reports, and scientific publications.
- Present project results and strategy in key company meetings.
- Mentor junior colleagues and troubleshoot synthetic challenges using literature and best practices.
- Ph.D. in synthetic organic chemistry or related discipline, or M.S. with 5+ years industry experience, or B.S. with 10+ years industry experience.
- Proven expertise in chemical synthesis (publications or industry achievements).
- Strong collaboration skills and a proactive, solution‑oriented approach.
- Familiarity with medicinal chemistry concepts and ability to learn quickly.
- Enthusiasm for applying chemistry to solve complex challenges at the intersection of genetics, functional genomics, and biology.
- Excellent communication skills and attention to detail.

Expected annual salary range for employees located in the San Francisco Bay Area: $134,000 - $163,000. Eligible for an annual performance bonus.
