Principal / Senior Principal Software Engineer

San Francisco Bay Area (Hybrid)

Leading global biotechnology company driving innovation in healthcare and drug discovery.

As part of the Computational Sciences group, you will develop modernized and interconnected computational and data ecosystems to accelerate drug discovery and development.

• Provide strategic and tactical technical leadership and identify new opportunities with consolidation, deprecation, and building common solutions.
• Ensure technical excellence and deliver data flows and pipelines across key domains, providing innovative, best‑in‑class solutions.
• Deeply understand and improve Data Workflows, Application Architecture, and Data Ecosystems through standard patterns such as layered architecture, microservices, event‑driven, multi‑tenancy.
• Collaborate with key partners to influence technical decisions around data workflows and application development.
• Integrate diverse data sets to power AI/ML and Natural Language Search, enabling downstream team workflows, visualization, and analytics, and facilitate AI model implementation.

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or related technical field, or equivalent experience.
• 7+ years of experience in software engineering (Principal level) or 12+ years (Sr. Principal level).
• Extensive experience working with databases, data analytics (SQL/No
  
  SQL, ETL, ELT), and APIs (REST, Graph
  
  QL).
• Experience designing cloud‑native architectures on public clouds, preferably AWS.
• Build data applications that are reliable, scalable, secure, and robust; champion Open Source, Cloud First, API First, and AI First approaches.
• Outstanding communication skills and ability to articulate technical concepts to diverse audiences.
• Ability to mentor junior developers and foster professional growth.
• Preferred:
  Full‑stack engineer with domain knowledge in biology, chemistry, drug discovery, translational medicine, or related scientific discipline.
