What Will You Do?
• Develop customer-facing products end-to-end: Build impactful features without a product manager, working closely with designers.
• Move quickly and deliver efficiently: Fix simple bugs on day one, ship small features within a week.
• Tackle complex engineering challenges: Lead and execute high-impact, technically demanding projects.
• Work across the stack: Develop and maintain scalable front-end and back-end systems using modern frameworks.
What Will You Need?
Required Experience:
• 5+ years in software development (7+ years required if no startup experience or CS degree).
• Full-Stack Expertise, ideally slightly front-end leaning.
• Early-stage startup experience:
Worked at a startup with fewer than 30 people (up to 100 considered).
• Lead-level product-minded engineer:
Can drive product development without oversight.
• Proficiency in Python (Django or Flask strongly preferred).
• JavaScript/Type Script experience, ideally React for front-end development.
• Strong SQL and relational database experience.
• Resume should demonstrate ownership of customer-facing products.
• Experience leading complex projects:
Not just maintenance, testing, internal tools, or porting work.
Tech Stack:
• Back-End:
Python (Django, Flask preferred)
• Front-End:
React preferred, but experience with Type Script, Svelte, Vue, Angular is acceptable
• Databases: SQL, Relational Databases
Preferred Experience (Nice to Have):
• Experience with data visualization, particularly D3.js.
• Personal/side technical projects that demonstrate innovation and creativity.
• Passion for mission-driven work in health, climate, or technology.
• Notable industry recognition:
Impressive Git Hub following, published technical books, or expert-level contributions.
• Past experience hiring/managing 5+ engineers, but prefers individual contributor coding role.
• BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science (founders are PhDs from Cal Tech).
• Ranked university with a strong CS background and curiosity for biology-related tech.
