Milk Education is currently recruiting motivated and enthusiastic Unqualified Teaching Assistants to support pupils across EYFS, KS1 and KS2 in primary schools throughout South Tyneside.
This opportunity is ideal for individuals with relevant experience working with children, recent graduates looking to gain classroom experience, or those with transferable skills from roles such as youth work, coaching, mentoring, or care.
No formal TA qualification is required — just the right attitude, experience, and passion for supporting young learners.
Unqualified Teaching Assistant – KeyRoles & Responsibilities
As an Unqualified Teaching Assistant, you will:
Unqualified Teaching Assistant – Classroom SupportAssist the class teacher in delivering engaging and structured lessons
Support pupils in understanding tasks and completing work
Prepare and organise classroom resources and learning materials
Maintain a positive, focused and inclusive learning environment
Deliver targeted interventions in literacy and numeracy
Support phonics, reading, and early maths development
Work closely with pupils who require additional academic support
Adapt activities to meet individual learning needs
Provide support to pupils with SEND including ASD, ADHD, SEMH or speech and language needs
Help implement individual support plans and behaviour strategies
Support emotional regulation and promote positive behaviour
Encourage confidence, independence and resilience
Supervise pupils during transitions, break times, and activities
Support safeguarding and follow school policies and procedures
Observe and feedback on pupil progress to teaching staff
Build positive relationships with pupils, staff and parents
We welcome applications from candidates who have:
Experience working with children or young people (education, tutoring, youth work, coaching, care etc.)
ORA degree gained within the last 3 years (any subject considered)
ORStrong transferable skills such as mentoring, leadership, support work or customer-facing roles
Unqualified Teaching Assistant should also demonstrate:
Excellent communication skills
Patience, adaptability and a proactive approach
Strong behaviour management awareness
A genuine passion for education
An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
Level 2 or Level 3 qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning
Previous school-based experience
