Position: Behaviour Support Assistant (PRU)

Protocol Education is currently recruiting for a Behaviour Support Assistant to join a well-established Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) in South Shields. This setting supports young people aged 11–16 who require an alternative approach to education due to social, emotional, and behavioural needs.

This role would suit candidates from education, youth work, mentoring, coaching, care, or residential support backgrounds.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Providing 1:1 mentoring and classroom support
  • Supporting pupils with SEMH needs and challenging behaviour
  • Building positive relationships and trust with learners
  • Supporting emotional regulation and conflict resolution
  • Encouraging attendance, engagement and participation
  • Working closely with teachers and pastoral staff
  • Recording pupil progress and behaviour observations
Working Hours:
  • Monday: 8:30am – 4:15pm
  • Tuesday: 8:30am – 4:00pm
  • Wednesday: 8:30am – 4:00pm
  • Thursday: 8:30am – 4:15pm
  • Friday: 8:30am – 3:00pm
Requirements:
  • Experience working with young people
  • Strong behaviour management skills
  • Resilient and adaptable approach
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to apply and pay for one
  • Full-time applicants only

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
