Who we’re looking for:

We are looking for a qualified Teacher to join our Alternative Education department in Brinkburn on a bank basis.

This is a non-traditional teaching role, requiring confidence, resilience, adaptability, and creativity. The successful candidate must be confident supporting young people who may display complex behaviours of concern and must be able to follow behaviour support strategies consistently.

This role is suited to a Teacher who is seeking a change of pace from a traditional classroom or busy SEN setting. Unlike typical teaching roles that involve delivering lessons to a full class, this position focuses on personalised support within a one-to-one classroom or home tutoring environment. This allows for a more individualised, consistent, and meaningful approach to learning, where you can make a lasting impact on an individual young person’s educational journey.

You will plan and deliver engaging, differentiated learning activities linked to the young person’s EHCP targets, individual needs, and educational outcomes. This may include creating visual resources, adapting learning materials, supporting communication, and using approaches that support both verbal and non-verbal interaction.

Collaboration will be key. You will work alongside Teaching Assistants, Learning Support Assistants, our SEND Lead, Coordinators, the young person’s care team, family, and external professionals, where appropriate, to ensure a holistic, person-centered approach.

Experience supporting young people with complex needs, SEND, SEMH needs, autism, profound learning disabilities, or behaviours of concern would be beneficial.

Applicants who already hold an enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service would be ideal.

• Experience teaching children or young people
• Experience supporting children or young people with SEND, SEMH needs, autism, profound learning disabilities, or complex behaviours of concern
• Confidence supporting young people who may display challenging or complex behaviours
• Ability to plan and deliver differentiated, person-centered learning activities
• A naturally calm, positive, and resilient attitude that helps create a safe, supportive, and engaging environment
• Strong understanding of safeguarding policies and practices
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work collaboratively with Teaching Assistants, Learning Support Assistants, families, care teams, and external professionals
• Ability to maintain accurate records of learning, progress, and engagement
• Additional qualifications or training in SEN support
• Knowledge of effective behaviour support strategies
• Experience creating or using visual aids or alternative communication systems
• Experience contributing to EHCP targets, ILPs, care plans, or transition plans
• Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service
• Full driving license and access to a vehicle, due to the potential community-based elements of the role

• Deliver high-quality, safe, and person-centered teaching and support
• Differentiate learning materials and approaches to meet the young person’s learning, communication, sensory, and emotional needs
• Support the young person to develop confidence, independence, communication, emotional regulation, and social interaction
• Create and adapt resources, including visual aids and practical learning materials
• Work closely with Teaching Assistants and Learning Support Assistants, providing guidance and direction where appropriate
• Monitor progress, gather evidence of learning, and maintain accurate educational records
