The Sports Official plays a vital role in advancing the YMCA’s mission of strengthening community by connecting people to their potential, purpose, and one another. This position helps create a positive and safe environment where youth learn the values of teamwork, sportsmanship, and respect through fair and developmentally appropriate officiating. - Critical Thinking & Decision Making:
Makes fair and timely judgments; adjusts to dynamic situations on the field or court. - Emotional Maturity:
Maintains composure and professionalism under pressure. - Program/Project Management:
Prepares for, executes, and evaluates program outcomes through officiating assignments.
- Must be at least 16 years of age.
- Knowledge of the rules and general gameplay for assigned sport(s).
- Completion of YMCA Online Officials Training prior to first scheduled game.
- Certification in Mandatory Child Abuse Reporting and Emergency Procedures (or willingness to obtain upon hire).
- Good interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to remain calm, fair, and professional in a fast-paced environment.
- Prior experience working with children or in a youth sports setting preferred.
- Understands that the YMCA is committed to compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
- (or willingness to complete within designated timeframe upon hire)
- Bloodborne Pathogens Training (or equivalent approved by the YMCA)
- Mandatory Child Abuse Reporting Certification
- Emergency Procedures Training
- CPR and First Aid Certification Online Officials Training (YMCA or equivalent)
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds using proper technique.
- Must be able to run, walk, and remain on feet for extended periods.
- Work is primarily outdoors and may include exposure to various weather conditions.
- Requires bending, reaching, and quick physical response in active game settings.
- Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
