The Director of Individual Giving is a senior, exempt, full-time leadership role responsible for shaping and leading Neighbors’ individual giving strategy, which generates nearly 40% of the organization’s annual revenue. This newly expanded position offers an experienced fundraiser the opportunity to build and lead a mature, donor-centered program with significant growth potential. The Director provides strategic direction and hands-on leadership for all individual giving efforts, including major gifts, annual giving at all levels, donor‑advised funds, planned giving, and donor‑facing communications.
The role manages a portfolio of approximately 120 major donors, leads the design and launch of Neighbors’ next phase of planned giving, and supervises one direct report. The Director of Individual Giving is a core member of Neighbors’ Leadership Team and a strategic partner to the Executive Director, alongside the Associate Director, Director of Programs, and Director of Community Partnership.
The Director is accountable for leading an individual giving program currently generating approximately $750,000 annually, with the authority and expectation to strengthen systems, deepen donor relationships, and grow revenue over time. As a strategic relationship‑builder, you will work with donors to connect their interests with the real outcomes of Neighbors’ work. Essential Job FunctionsLeadership:
- Serves as an important member of Neighbors’ leadership team.
- Advance a shared culture of philanthropy across the organization.
- Presents development updates at the Board of Directors meetings.
- Leads or co‑lead a Board subcommittee or task force as assigned.
Individual Donor Relationships:
- Advances internal systems, messaging, and leadership readiness for an upcoming capital campaign led by outside counsel.
- Provides strategic oversight and execution of a comprehensive individual giving program.
- Designs, implements, and evaluates annual and multi‑year individual giving strategies.
- Manages and grows a portfolio of 100+ sustaining (monthly) donors through ongoing stewardship.
- Develops and launches a planned giving program aligned with community loyalty and long‑term sustainability.
- Grows donor‑advised fund engagement and stewardship.
- Manages a portfolio of individual, family, DAF, and planned gift prospects.
- Identifies, qualifies, and cultivates Neighbors’ most engaged supporters and prospects.
- Serves as primary relationship manager for major donors.
- Partners with the Executive Director and Board to support donor cultivation and solicitation.
Marketing, Communications and Storytelling:
- Sets and stewards the organization’s communications and storytelling strategy, ensuring consistency across channels and audiences.
- Leads organizational communications in close partnership with program and development staff.
