Milk Education is seeking compassionate, resilient, and dedicated SEMH Support Mentors to work within Primary Schools across Sunderland and South Tyneside.

This rewarding role involves supporting pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, helping them overcome barriers to learning, regulate emotions, build positive relationships, and achieve success both academically and personally.

As an SEMH Support Mentor, you will be a trusted adult and positive role model, providing tailored support to help children feel safe, engaged, and confident within the school environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Providing 1:1 and small group support to pupils with SEMH needs
  • Supporting children to manage emotions and develop positive coping strategies
  • Building strong, trusting relationships with pupils to promote engagement and wellbeing
  • Encouraging positive behaviour and supporting behaviour management strategies
  • Working closely with teachers, SENDCOs, and pastoral teams to support pupil progress
  • Promoting resilience, confidence, self-esteem, and emotional regulation
  • Supporting pupils both inside and outside of the classroom environment
We Are Looking For:
  • Experience working with children or young people with SEMH, SEND, behavioural, or additional support needs
  • A calm, patient, and nurturing approach
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • The ability to remain resilient in challenging situations
  • A genuine passion for supporting vulnerable children and young people
  • An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
