CAD Engineer - Electrical

Our client, a well‑established engineering company based in Boldon Colliery, is seeking an experienced Electrical CAD Engineer to join their engineering team on a permanent basis. Salary – Up to £35,000 per annum, depending on experience.

Working Hours:

Monday to Thursday 8:30am – 5:00pm;
Friday 8:30am – 1:30pm.

As an Electrical CAD Engineer, you will be responsible for producing high‑quality 2D electrical schematics and interconnection drawings for low‑voltage (LV) distribution and control systems. You will interpret customer requirements and technical specifications to develop accurate and detailed engineering documentation that supports both manufacturing and installation processes.

• Produce LV electrical control schematics, interconnection diagrams, and front‑of‑panel layout drawings from customer and internal specifications.
• Create detailed manufacturing drawing packages, including parts lists and Bills of Materials (BOMs).
• Utilise AutoCAD and/or Solid Works to support the electrical design requirements of the Engineering Department.
• Interpret technical specifications and customer requirements to develop compliant design solutions.
• Collaborate with workshop personnel to develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and improve electrical equipment design and build processes.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives to streamline engineering and manufacturing activities.
• Maintain accurate engineering records and documentation using company databases and software systems.
• Work independently to deliver projects within agreed timescales and quality standards.

• Essential
  • Proven experience using AutoCAD within an electrical engineering environment.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical control panel design for industrial equipment.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and produce LV electrical schematics and interconnection drawings.
  • Sound electrical and control systems knowledge.
  • Understanding of production engineering practices.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to discuss technical drawings and specifications confidently.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook.
  • ONC qualification or equivalent.

  • Experience using Solid Works.
  • Previous experience within a manufacturing or industrial engineering environment.
