Job Description

HVAC Chiller Service Technician at a large mechanical services company in CT. Responsible for maintenance, repairs, and troubleshooting of chillers, refrigeration equipment, boilers, and unitary HVAC equipment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Performs routine and preventative maintenance on chiller and boiler units’ electrical and mechanical components.
  • Supports equipment such as chillers, compressors, purge units, cooling towers, pumps/motors, valves, boilers, and unitary equipment.
  • Maintains excellent record keeping, including refrigeration and operation logs.
  • Handles chiller/boiler components, refrigeration units, and supporting equipment such as meters, relays, sensors, analog devices, VFDs, switches, controllers, gauges, thermostats and similar devices.
  • Performs major repairs on chillers and boilers, including recovery of refrigerant, replacement of O‑rings, gaskets, seals, bearings, sleeve Babbitt, thrust/counter thrust and roller bearings.
  • Conducts boiler inspections and PM teardowns per current state of CT code guidelines.
  • Performs work on cooling tower gear boxes, drive couplings, intermediate shafts, fan blade pitches, and centrifugal pumps.
  • Works on equipment brands:
    Trane, Carrier, York, Daikin, Smardt, McQuay, Cleaver Brooks, Hurst, Lochinvar, Fulton, HB Smith, Patterson Kelly.
  • Utilizes CFC and HCFC refrigerant recovery equipment and maintains records in accordance with EPA regulations.
Required

Skills & Qualifications
  • High School diploma or equivalent (D1, S1 or S2 licensure is ideal).
  • Post‑secondary vocational or technical school diploma in HVAC or Refrigeration from an accredited institution OR a recognized apprenticeship program.
  • 3‑5 years minimum experience working on commercial units.
  • Valid, clean driving record.
  • Boiler and steam experience is a plus.
  • EPA certification.
