Role Description1. Core Accounting & General Ledger
- Record daily financial transactions and post journal entries (accruals, prepayments, adjusting entries).
- Maintain and balance the general ledger, sub-ledgers, and trial balance.
- Maintain the fixed asset register, calculating monthly depreciation and recording acquisitions and disposal of assets
- Process supplier invoices, reconcile supplier statements, and schedule weekly/monthly payment runs.
- Generate customer invoices, track outstanding accounts receivable, and follow up on overdue payments.
- Perform daily bank reconciliations for all bank accounts.
- Perform balance sheet control account reconciliations to ensure data accuracy.
- Assist in monitoring cash flows and preparing weekly/monthly cash projections.
- Assist with month-end and year-end closing processes according to set schedules.
- Prepare draft income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow reports for review by senior management.
- Assist in preparing budget-to-actual variance analysis reports.
- Prepare schedules and file routine statutory tax returns.
- Ensure all accounting procedures adhere to company policies and local financial regulations.
- Support internal and external audit processes by preparing audit working files and supporting schedules.
- Candidates should possess strong core accounting skills, including general ledger management, accounts payable and receivable, bank reconciliations, and month-end closing.
- Candidates should possess financial reporting and analysis skills, such as preparing management accounts, budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.
- Candidates should possess proficiency in accounting software and related tools, including ERP/accounting systems, strongly MS Excel skills, and other office productivity applications.
- Candidates should possess knowledge of relevant accounting standards, tax principles, and compliance requirements within the South African regulatory environment.
- Candidates should possess strong organizational and time management skills, with attention to detail, accuracy, and the ability to handle multiple deadlines.
- Candidates should possess effective communication and collaboration skills, including the ability to work closely with finance colleagues, operations teams, and external auditors.
- Relevant qualifications such as a Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field are preferred; professional certifications (e.g., SAIPA, SAICA, CIMA) will be an advantage.
- Previous experience as an Accountant or in a similar finance role is a requirement.
- 2–4 years of general accounting or bookkeeping experience.
