Job description is as follows:
The Tax Compliance Officer is responsible for managing and ensuring full tax compliance for clients in accordance with the requirements of the South African Revenue Service (SARS). The role includes submission of tax returns, handling SARS queries, monitoring deadlines, and providing general tax administration support to the firm and its clients.
The function includes, but is not limited to the following:
1. Tax Return Preparation & Submission
- Individual Income Tax Returns (ITR
12) - Provisional Tax Returns (IRP6)
- Corporate Income Tax Returns (ITR
14) - VAT Returns (VAT
201) - Trusts and Non-Profit Tax Returns
- PAYE/EMP
201 & EMP
501 reconciliations - Ensure accurate completion and timely submission via SARS eFiling.
- Monitor and manage tax deadlines to avoid penalties and interest.
- Statements of assets and liabilities, capital reconciliations and tax computations
2. SARS Administration & Queries
- Liaise directly with SARS regarding:
- Verifications and audits
- Disputes relating to assessments
- Statement of Accounts reconciliations
- Penalties and interest disputes
- Payment arrangements
- Resolve eFiling profile issues.
- Attend SARS appointments where required
- Tax registrations
- Customs related queries
3. Compliance Monitoring
- Maintain tax compliance status for all clients
- Monitor outstanding returns and payments
- Assist with tax clearance applications
- Ensure clients remain in good standing with SARS
4. Client Communication
- Communicate tax liabilities and deadlines clearly to clients
- Follow up on outstanding information required for submissions
- Provide basic tax guidance within scope of practice
5. Record Keeping & Reporting
- Maintain accurate tax working papers and supporting schedules
- Prepare tax computations and reconciliations
- Keep updated tax registers and compliance trackers
- Qualification in taxation.
- Registered Tax Practitioner (advantageous)
- Strong knowledge of South African tax legislation
- Experience working on SARS e-Filing.
- Proficient in accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
- 2--5 years' experience in a tax compliance role (preferably in an accounting practice)
- Experience dealing directly with SARS queries and objections
