COST ACCOUNTANT

Introduction

Our client is seeking a highly analytical and detail‑driven Cost Accountant with a strong manufacturing background and 3‑year article experience (non‑negotiable). The successful candidate will oversee job costing, cost analysis, inventory valuation, recoveries, and financial process improvements.

This role requires someone who can work independently, meet deadlines, manage conflict professionally, and provide accurate cost insights to support operational and financial decision‑making.

Key Responsibilities

Job Costing & Analysis

• Job Costing — Ensure all jobs are costed correctly with accurate expense allocation

• WIP Management — Manage the WIP list and ensure timely closure of jobs

• Cost Extraction — Pull costing data for analysis and review

• Cost Variance Analysis — Determine cost variances and shortfalls per job and job type

• Costing Database — Maintain an up‑to‑date costing database for trend analysis and future predictions

Recoveries & Internal Controls

• Internal Recoveries — Ensure correct intercompany invoicing and recoveries

• Job Recoveries — Allocate correct expenses and ensure recoverable items are correctly assigned

Inventory Valuation & Control

• Inventory Valuation — Maintain accurate inventory values considering stock age, improvements and write‑offs

• Inventory Control — Provide and maintain up‑to‑date inventory records

Business Central (BC) Support

• BC Reporting — Set up reporting mechanisms and extract relevant reports

• BC Maintenance — Maintain BC in applicable areas and support financial processes

Financial Projects & Ad Hoc Duties

• Financial Process Projects — Assist with specialised financial and process projects

• Ad Hoc Assignments — Undertake additional work requiring expert knowledge

Minimum Requirements

• Grade 12 / Matric

• Accounting qualification

• 3‑year article experience (non‑negotiable)

• Cost Accounting Certificate (if 5 years total experience)

• Cost Accounting Diploma (if less than 5 years’ experience)

• Strong manufacturing background (not just mining)

• Strong leadership skills

• Ability to work well under pressure

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

• Ability to work independently

• Customer focus and liaison ability

• Deadline‑driven and target‑oriented

• Computer literate

• Report writing skills

• Conflict‑management skills
