Senior Petroleum Accountant

Our client is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Senior Petroleum Accountant to join their finance team in Nelspruit. This hybrid role requires a blend of in-office collaboration and remote flexibility, focusing on managing the financial aspects of oil and gas operations. You will be responsible for accounting for exploration and production expenditures, joint venture billing, revenue recognition, and financial reporting specific to the industry.

The ideal candidate possesses a strong understanding of upstream accounting principles and practices, coupled with excellent analytical and system skills. This is a crucial role in ensuring the financial integrity and operational efficiency of the company's assets.

• Manage the accounting for oil and gas assets, including exploration, development, and production costs.
• Prepare and review joint interest billings (JIBs) and owner statements, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
• Perform revenue accounting, including processing of royalty payments and working interest allocations.
• Assist in the preparation of financial statements and management reports tailored to the oil and gas industry.
• Ensure compliance with industry accounting standards (e.g., ASC 932) and internal policies.
• Support internal and external audits related to petroleum accounting.

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in petroleum accounting, preferably within the upstream sector.
• Strong knowledge of joint venture accounting, revenue allocation, and cost accounting principles.
• Proficiency with accounting software and ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle).
• Experience with industry-specific accounting software is a plus.
• Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
