GIBB Mining, a subsidiary of the GIBB Group, is looking for another talented professional to complement their team, in the form of a Mining Site Supervisor (Shaft Sinking).

Core purposeTo oversee and manage all shaft sinking and mining site activities to ensure safe, compliant, high-quality, and efficient execution of work in line with project standards, schedules, and regulatory requirements.

- Quality Plan (with hold points) management
- Shaft sinking Work Schedules management
- Quality Control and Progress
- Site Variance Reports
- Daily Diary review and management
- Participate in Visible Felt Leadership (VFL) and other safety inspections
- Participate in incident and accident investigations
- Be appointed as a responsible person in terms of the Mine Health and Safety Act Regulation 2.9.2
- Ensure all safety protocols are adhered to, including isolation, gas detection and monitoring etc (use of GDIs)
- Ensure correct PPE is worn and used correctly including personal issue safety harnesses
- Liaise with Contractors to and ensure that the Contractors equipment is fit-for- purpose, is always safe and in good working condition
- At the outset agree on Quality Plan (with Hold points) with the Contractor. Quality control to be according to the approved Quality Plan.
- Monitor the schedule of work under his control in accordance with the programme and ensure that the Contractor complies, while adhering to all Safety Regulations.
- Manage Corrective Action when deviations from plan or standards occur
- Control and monitor the drawing plan and ensure that contractors are working to the latest revision on the drawings
- Ensure that the Contractors equipment is safe and in good working condition at all times
- Assist with Project Planning and coordination
- Attendance of Site Construction, Project Planning, Safety, Site Inspection meetings as required.
- Responsible for safety during erection of steel structures, checking on the safe working load and validity of the Contractors cranes and slings, harnesses, erection procedures and personal safety equipment.
- Quality Control and progress during erection of steel structures in accordance with Approved for Construction drawings. Checking Alignment, Elevation, Plumbness, Bolting connections, Final Corrosion protection, Cladding and finishing.
- Monitoring adherence to the Heavy Lift Study plan.
- Erection of the Headgear. Paying special attention to Guide alignment, Jack catch installation, Bank and station doors and gates.
- Monitor and Control the mechanical maintenance and statutory examinations of the sinking winder and winches used by the sinking contractor
- Monitor and Control water handling during the sinking and equipping stages
- Quality Control during the equipping of the shaft, paying special attention to the following activities, reporting deviations from the drawings and specifications to the Site Construction Manager / Shaft Package Manager and recording actual measurements:
- Check and record elevations of the curb ring and shutters
- Check and record elevations of cast-in bunton boxes during sinking
- Shaft bunton jigging and marking
- Shaft guide jigging and marking
- Installation of shaft buntons and guide
- Station steel work
- Shaft bottom civil work and steelwork with spillage pump
- Assist with the commissioning of the shaft system.
- On request for handover of a completed structure, the incumbent will carry out an inspection and compile a punch list for remedial work by the contractor.
- GIBB / Sasol Project handover certificates must be forwarded to the Site Construction Manager / Shaft Package Manager on acceptance of installation / structure.
- Attend daily meetings with the Shaft Package Manager and/or Construction Manager. Information on progress, safety, deviations from the standards and programmes, Quality, and any matter that could lead to a delay claim from the contractor will be reported on a daily basis.
- Any reasonable lawful request by Management.
- Persons employed by GIBB are responsible for ensuring that they act according to agreed procedures and work instructions and make themselves familiar with the procedures that relate to their sphere of activities
