Utilityman - Civil Building & Maintenance

Job Summary

Eskom Holdings SOC Ltd is a leading electricity utility company committed to delivering sustainable and reliable energy across South Africa. We are seeking a skilled and proactive Utility man – Civil Building & Maintenance to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for carrying out general civil building maintenance and construction tasks to ensure our facilities remain safe, functional, and in excellent condition.

This position requires hands‑on experience in civil building operations, maintenance, and repairs while adhering to Eskoms high standards for quality, safety, and efficiency.

• Perform routine and preventive maintenance of buildings, structures, and associated civil facilities.

• Repair and maintain walls, floors, roofs, doors, windows, and other structural components.

• Assist in construction, renovation, and refurbishment projects, following project specifications.

• Operate hand and power tools safely and efficiently to complete tasks.

• Conduct inspections to identify defects or maintenance requirements and report findings.

• Ensure all work complies with occupational health, safety regulations, and Eskoms standards.

• Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, materials used, and project progress.

• Collaborate with engineers, supervisors, and other tradespeople to complete tasks effectively.

• Completion of a recognized technical or trade qualification in Civil Building, Construction, or Maintenance

• Solid understanding of building construction, maintenance techniques, and civil engineering basics.

• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and manuals.

• Proficient in the safe operation of hand and power tools.

• Strong problem‑solving skills and ability to troubleshoot building‑related issues.

• Good physical stamina and ability to work in various environments, including heights and confined spaces.

• Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team.

• Minimum 2–4 years of experience in civil building maintenance, construction, or related fields.

• Experience in utility or industrial environments is an advantage.

• Prior experience in preventive and corrective maintenance activities is preferred.

• Full‑time position, with standard hours from 08:00 to 17:00
  , Monday to Friday.

• May require occasional overtime, weekend, or emergency work depending on operational needs.

• Comprehensive knowledge of building maintenance procedures and construction methods.

• Ability to prioritize tasks and work independently with minimal supervision.
