Quantity Surveyor

Location: Hillcrest

A well-established construction company in Durban is looking for an experienced Construction Quantity Surveyor to join their team. This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on QS with strong site and commercial experience across residential and commercial building projects.

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the full quantity surveying function on construction projects, including cost control, measurements, valuations, subcontractor management, procurement support, claims, variations, and project reporting.

Key Responsibilities:

• Prepare and manage project budgets, cost plans, and cash flow forecasts
• Measure work completed and prepare interim valuations and payment certificates
• Manage subcontractor appointments, payments, variations, and final accounts
• Monitor project costs and identify any commercial risks
• Prepare tender documentation, BOQs, and cost estimates where required
• Work closely with contracts managers, site teams, subcontractors, and clients
• Manage claims, variations, and contractual correspondence
• Ensure accurate cost reporting throughout the project lifecycle
• Assist with procurement and negotiation of subcontractor packages
• Prepare and agree final accounts

Requirements:

• Around 8 or more years’ experience as a Quantity Surveyor within the construction industry
• Strong experience on residential and commercial building projects
• Solid knowledge of construction processes, contracts, measurements, and cost control
• Good working knowledge of CCS is essential
• Relevant Quantity Surveying qualification preferred
• Strong communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills
• Able to work well with site teams and manage project deadlines
• Based in Durban or willing to work in the Durban area.

This role would suit a practical, commercially astute Quantity Surveyor who enjoys being involved in live construction projects and working closely with project teams to keep costs, claims, and contract administration under control.
