About the Role
Our client is seeking a highly competent and experienced Senior Construction Health and Safety Officer to champion safety initiatives and ensure regulatory compliance on construction projects in Benoni . This role is crucial for maintaining a safe working environment for all personnel and preventing accidents. You will be responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring health and safety programs, conducting inspections, and providing training.
The ideal candidate possesses a deep understanding of OHS legislation, strong risk assessment skills, and the ability to effectively communicate safety protocols across all levels of a construction site, with flexibility for hybrid work arrangements.
- Develop, implement, and manage comprehensive health and safety plans for construction projects.
- Conduct regular site inspections and risk assessments to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with OHS Act and regulations.
- Investigate all accidents and near-misses, preparing detailed reports and recommending corrective actions.
- Provide health and safety training to all site personnel, including subcontractors.
- Ensure the availability and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Liaise with regulatory bodies and external safety consultants as required.
- National Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety or a related field.
- Minimum of 6 years of experience in construction health and safety management.
- Registered as a Safety Professional with SAIOSH or relevant body.
- In-depth knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) and related regulations.
- Strong auditing, inspection, and reporting skills.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and training abilities.
