The main purpose of this position is to teach, research, engage with the community and perform administration duties pertaining to Communication Studies. The position requires teaching, researching, community engagement and administration of Communication Studies modules in line with the University's strategic and operational plans.
Key Performance Areas Teaching- The provision of leadership in teaching & learning at School or Programme level and teaching Communication Studies modules using modem and appropriate pedagogies.
- The provision of leadership in research at the Programme and/or School level.
- A substantive level of research activity and the production of accredited research outputs in national and international journals.
- A good record of Postgraduate supervision and the graduation of Master's and Doctoral students in the minimum time.
- Engagement and leadership in engagement, through which knowledge and skills are used to be benefit the discipline/profession and the community.
- The provision of leadership at the level of the School and/or Discipline/Programme.
- An extensive record of research outputs in Communication Studies, including at least 5 publications in the last 5 years, inaccredited national and international journals as well as presentations at national and international conferences.
- A substantial record of at least postgraduate supervision, Master's and at least one Doctoral candidate in Communication Studies with some of these students publishing their research.
- A strong record of active participation in and leadership of learned societies in Communication Studies.
- Outstanding application of disciplinary/professional knowledge and skills to the benefit of the external community.
- Sound functional knowledge and application of Communication Studies concepts in South African and internal contexts.
- Sound functional knowledge and application of Communication Studies concepts in research locally and internationally.
- Sound functional knowledge and application of Communication Studies concepts in community engagement locally and international contexts.
- Sound functional knowledge and application of Communication Studies in leadership and administrative functions in South Africa and in international contexts.
- People oriented, hardworking, responsible, reliable, creative and innovative.
- Respectful, honest, punctual and understanding of protocol.
- Proven attributes of transparency, integrity and teamwork.
