Position: Homeschool Tutor/Facilitator for 8-year-old Neurodivergent boy in Langeberg Ridge
Location: Durbanville

Introduction:
We are seeking a vibrant, intellectually curious homeschool facilitator to support an 8-year-old boy beginning the Impaq homeschool curriculum. The child in question is academically bright, with strong interests in space, technology, weather, and playing Roblox. He thrives in mature, intellectually engaging conversations. The facilitator should ideally be modern, tech-savvy, and able to connect with him through shared curiosity and trust.

A relational approach is essential, as building rapport and respect will be the foundation for academic progress.

Main Purpose of the Job:

To provide consistent, structured support in a homeschool setting, guiding the child academically while respecting his neurodivergent profile and demand avoidance presentation. The facilitator should:

  • Build confidence and maintain intellectual engagement.
  • Support re‑integration into routine.
  • Adapt learning to his strengths and interests.
  • Encourage independence in a safe, affirming environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Facilitate Impaq curriculum learning, adapting pace and intensity to the child’s progress.

• Use relational, intellectually engaging methods: mature conversations, technical topics, and creative approaches.

• Support executive functioning and transitions with clear, structured routines.

• Encourage love of learning through space, weather, and technology themes.

• Provide scaffolding for demand avoidance and masking tendencies with patience and flexibility.

• Build a trusting relationship: practise active listening, validate emotions, and create a safe environment.

• Communicate progress and challenges with sensitivity and consistency.

• Collaborate with parents to adjust structure and intensity as needed.

Requirements

Job-Related Experience & Knowledge:

• Previous experience supporting neurodivergent children (ASD, PDA) – Highly advantageous

• Understanding of demand avoidance and masking – Highly advantageous

• Background in teaching, tutoring, or child development – Desirable

• Ability to adapt learning creatively to intellectual interests – Essential

• Passion for neurodiversity and willingness to evolve with the family – Essential

Required Skills:

• Young, vibrant personality with intellectual curiosity – Essential

Strong communication skills with children and parents – Essential

• Ability to engage through technical and mature conversations – Essential

• Organisational skills to implement structured yet flexible routines – Essential

• Comfort with outdoor activities, animals, and camping – Advantageous

Working Hours:

  • Monday to Thursday: 09h00 – 12:00 (3 hours per day – fast-paced, higher intensity sessions preferred)
